Still Creepy After All These Years

Just a short post today, folks. The New York Daily News has an incredibly vivid package on their Web site right now to tout the upcoming ESPN mini-series, "The Bronx is Burning."

The site has several engrossing articles and videos that look back on that summer of discontent from 30 years ago in all its perverse glory -- the infamous blackout and subsequent looting, the volatile Yankees of Martin and Reggie, and of course, the Son of Sam.

In the humble opinion of this crime reporter, none of the pieces are as compelling as the six-part look at Sam and the terror he unleashed during his year on the loose, prowling the streets of New York for new victims and sending countless brunettes on a mad search for blonde wigs.

A particular highlight: a video clip of Jimmy Breslin recounting a letter Sam sent him -- a letter that was written in blood. Yikes. Check it out.
