Hit-and-Run -- with a Twist

I've seen a lot of strange, convoluted cases in my time here at the People Paper, but this one ranks up there.

The story as we knew it: 14-year-old Reginald Brown and his 6-year-old cousin, Tychi Spain, were hit by a speeding Honda Civic on Torresdale Avenue in the Northeast on Sunday, sending both boys to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children with a plethora of serious injuries. Witnesses jotted down the license plate number -- GLV-5477 -- and said the driver was a young white or Hispanic man.

The twist: On Tuesday, we learned that Reginald was supposed to have been in court the day after he was run down, to testify against Robert Junious, who allegedly assaulted the teen last month.

The second twist: Robert Junious' brother, Mahil Junious, was arrested on Monday for allegedly threatening Reginald and Tychi's relatives, yelling "you are going to die tonight," according to court records. Relatives of the Junious brothers called me yesterday and said both men are innocent and have nothing to do with the hit-and-run.

What it all means: I have no freaking idea. Because this case involves two juveniles, detectives from both the Accident Investigation Division and the Special Victims Unit are more tight-lipped than usual. Thus far, investigators are not saying the hit-and-run and the court case are linked. While most folks instinctively say, "Yeah, right," and roll their eyes at that notion, I'm still thinking the jury's out on this one. TV courtroom dramas have us conditioned to believe otherwise, but there is a real chance that we're looking at two separate cases that just happened to overlap in a very odd way.

Look for an update early next week.

John Q:

And the answer is?

BC:

I am so tired of hearing about all of these stories of people dying in this city! What is wrong with these people here that they can't live here without trying to kill each other! It really has made me sick to hear about every single day since I have moved here. When is this nonsense going to stop!

Gina Jackson:

I lived in Philadelphia my entire life it makes me sick to know that for some strange reason that the city officals cannot get this city under control. You have good, honest people who work everyday and pay taxes and have to live in fear. I never see cops walking the streets presence will make a big difference. I know if we need more cops then hire more and pay more.

Yo David, you go into the witness protection program or what? We miss ya.

Mike Bucceroni:

Nah.............I think David is just pining away for Simone. Strictly from a professional stand point, I must clarify.
