More Bloodshed ...

While the city seemed to take a breather yesterday to mourn a fallen cop, the Murder Machine kicked into gear once again today. This time, it was a 23-year-old who was on the receiving end of a bunch of bullets to the chest and head.

Cops say a nameless, faceless gunman ran up behind the victim, who was on a bike on a South Philly street corner around 11 a.m. He was pronounced dead at HUP three hours later. Police said there were no witnesses, motives or suspects.

Wait. No witnesses? At 11 a.m.? On a shiny, sunny day? We think it's amazing and encouraging that dozens of people have come forward with info, trying to help investigators nail a cop killer. But when another regular civilian gets blown away in the middle of the day, everyone is suddenly blind and deaf again? Great.

If anyone was awake or mildly alert before noon today near 21st and McKean streets, give Homicide a call at 215-686-3334 or 3335. We're hoping that Officer Skerski's case is solved soon. But man, wouldn't it be nice if we could start bringing closure to the families of the other 130 or so people who have been killed this year?

Amen David. Philadelphia now resembles a war zone.......and no one sees anything.

The police will do the best they can, given the astonishing low level of support and resources provided to them thus far by the politicians.

But things will only begin to turn around when the people of Philadelphia reach the point of "Kifaya".....an Arabic word meaning "Enough". For them to stop living in fear, living with violence, living with intolerable levels of day to day crime......they have to want to make that decision to say "Kifaya".

Sooner or later it will happen.......sooner would be better than later, god willing.

Sooner would be better! We had 380 murders last year and it looks like we'll match or better that number this year. If that doesn't make people say "Kifaya," what will?

It's everywhere my friend. Sometimes it feels like mass insanity has enveloped the human race.

You just keep on doing what you are doing. Light is often the best disinfectant, and you and Simone are doing an excellent job.

The question is.........will they listen?

Iraq/Philadelphia........totally different scenarios but same basic problem.

Life is cheap and meaningless to the ones pulling the triggers. Achieving one's interests has more value than human life.

But the ability (and tendancy) of the human spirit to arise in the face of adversity is well documented throughout the history of mankind. I was once told that the only thing that can beat back the very worst in this world is the very best in ourselves.

So it shall one day be in Philadelphia.

"Kifaya" David........."Kifaya".
