Want Commish to Serve You Dinner?

In honor of a truly good cause, numerous top ranking cops will don aprons on Thursday and serve dinner -- a four course dinner, at that -- to just about anyone who shows up to Johnnie's Italian Restaurant in Wissinoming.

The dinner will raise money for an education fund that's set up for Officer Gary Skerski's kids. Skerski (pictured above left), a married father of two, was killed in the line of duty last month when he responded to an armed robbery in the Northwood section of the city. He's survived by his son Robert, 13, and daughter Nicole, 10.

(For those of you that still say "Huh?" when we mention Northwood, think of Frankford and move slightly to the left.)

Cops aren't saying yet if Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson has any plans to try his hand at waitering at Thursday's shindig, but the event is open to the public and the cost -- $25 -- is minimal, considering you could have a top pol serve you dinner. And how many people can say they've had that sort of experience? (Unless you happened to be at Geno's Steaks at just the right moment last night ...)
