This story smacked the browner half of Philly Confidential in the face:
A group of angry white men attacked a black off-duty police officer as he vacationed with his fellow cops, who were white, at the Jersey Shore Tuesday morning.
Guess what?
The officer is the younger brother of PC'S good friend, a former editor at the Inquirer.
That's right folks.
One of PC's best friends has been crying her eyes out because her younger brother faced death at the hands of racist ignorant barbarians.
What is this, 1930s Alabama?
According to a witness who spoke to the local ABC
station, "they used the N-word and said you don't belong in this neighborhood," said one witness. "The next thing I know the one guy has a bat and starts beating the black kid. It was horrible. No one deserves to be beaten like that."
The three brutes ran away leaving Cheltenham officer Jarreau Francis unconscious on the ground. The two other cops, who were hanging with Francis, were also hurt as they tried to stop the attack, reports said.
"They didn't know he was an off-duty police officer, just the fact that he was black was the target of this whole incident here," said a detective working the Sea Isle, N.J. beat to a NBC
reporter.
The thugs were quickly nabbed and were charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and bias intimidation, reports said.
PC can only hope the judge will throw the book these bigots.
Officer Francis is at home nursing a concussion, his sister told PC last night between sobs. She plans on leaving her network TV gig in New York City for an undetermined amount of time to care for her baby bro.
Hopefully this disgusting attack won't cause Officer Francis to quit his career of serving the public and keeping our streets safe.
More importantly, PC prays that the assault doesn't break Officer Francis' spirit.
Who else would PC tease during the holidays?
P.S. Officer Francis, it was PC, not your sister, who ate up all your cookies last winter.
He He He.
PC loves cookies.
Sad commentary of the Jersey shore. Owned a home in Ocean City and was chided by red neck relatives for having some of my friends of color stay a weekend (some were Mideastern, Italian and bi-racial couple).
Wonder how many years it will take?
This is a shame .....I thought we came and pass this but I guess not .. I hope you feel better and I hope these guy's get what they need and that is life ..... and please dont let this get in the way of your career stand tall as a black man . We need more black men and women out there ..
P.S MY TWIN SISTER IS A COP SO I KNOW HOW IT IS ...
For those who live in the north, racism is worst there than in South Carolina. When i would visit PHILLY during the summers i wanted to go all over the city.i was told by my PHILLY family members that blacks were not allowed to visit certain parts of the city.NOW IN COLUMBIA,SOUTH CAROLINA I(ANYONE) can go to any part of the city and not feel threaten.NEW JERSEY AND PHILLY I SAY TO YOU ALL..LIVE AND LET LIVE WE ALL ARE HUMAN FIRST.

Why does the color of one's skin still determine their standing in the society?
America is still in the dark ages as far as I'm concerned.
