This half of Philly Confidential was a crime victim.
A little ironic, don’t you think?
Some a$$hole stole PC's mountain bike right in front of her Center City apartment building Thursday morning.
The theft occurred just a few feet away from the lobby's 24 hr security guards who were probably picking their noses during the crime.
Being a crime victim sucks. But being a crime victim in Philadelphia sucks even more. PC rang 911 three times, missing nearly two hours of work, waiting for the dispatcher to order a patrol cop to the scene of the crime.
PC finally gave up and walked to the 9th District on 21st near Callowhill Street to file the police report.
We know 9th district officers have more important things to do than to look for stolen bikes.
But c'mon, it took 100 minutes for a cop to reach PC's home.
Once she decided to walk to the district, PC called 911 and asked to cancel her request. In regular Philadelphia fashion, the dispatcher still wasted an officer's time and sent him out on the call anyway.
As a crime reporter, PC is disgusted with this town. And as citizen, like many others, she feels alone. Very alone.
What is the lesson of all of this?
Don't get hurt, sick, or victimized in Philadelphia.
Our police and medic is too overworked to deal with it.
stop the madness and find the bike
Posted by: J at September 10, 2006 01:32 AMGee, when I was mugged & assaulted the police showed up in 3 minutes. Maybe they prioritize their calls or something? I think it's pretty pathetic that you chose to use your column to whine about this. It says a lot about you as a person (selfish, self-centered, not grounded in reality). Get over it. Better yet, talk to the real victims of terrible crimes, then try to compare your situation to theirs. You portrayed yourself as someone to laugh at & pity, so now I will go to every length to avoid your column & read only those with something to actually say.
