From Sam Donnellon at Flyers' practice this afternoon:
Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn is considered "probably doubtful" for tomorrow night's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals against Pittsburgh, general manager Paul Holmgren said today.
Coburn required more than 50 stitches to close a circular cut around his left eye suffered early in the Flyers' 4-2 loss Sunday night in Game 2.
Coburn was struck by a puck shot by Pittsburgh's Sergei Gonchar and tipped by Evgeni Malkin early in the first period.
He was to be checked by an opthomologist today for precautionary reasons, although Holmgren said, "We have no reason to think there is anything wrong with the eye."
Coburn lost a lot of blood after the injury and was lightheaded and threw up several times on the team charter back from Pittsburgh, Holmgren said. Holmgren said the team does not believe Coburn had a concussion.
As for the tests to this point, Holmgren said, "Everything checks out."
Ryan Parent will take Coburn's place in the lineup Tuesday night at the Wachovia Center, with the Flyers trailing by two games to none.
Coburn could return Thursday and is expected to wear a protective facemask.

How about dressing Denis Gauthier. He hits like a ton of bricks is an NHL veteran and brings good defensive skills to the game. An increase in the physical presence is definitly a plus.

Best of luck to Coburn thats a nasty injury especially when hes such a key to the team, I dont think hes "doubtful" for Game 3, I think he'll be done for the rest of the series! And the Flyers NEED to win these games at home to stay in it! Im a die hard Flyers fan BUT I don't see us coming back from a 3-0 series! We need to pumble them pens when they get here in OUR TOWN!!! LETS GO FLYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need something to latch onto to feel confident about Tuesday nights game. I need this win. We need to get luck back on our side. We play well with our back against the wall. Just play smart, tough hockey and stay the hell out of the penalty box. Just Win Baby!

The Flyers downfall was getting Modry at the deadline. This guy is the worst. Where is Mark Howe when u need him!

Wouldn't it be nice if Parent was a great surprise tonight? Who do you put him with? Smith or Hatch? I would say Smith.

I thought Modry played a good game on Sunday--I thought he played his heart out, actually, like all the D-men who had to suck it up with Coburn got hit. Not to mention, he had an assist on the first goal. I think the Flyers were smart to get a real vet like Modry at the deadline. If they hadn't we'd have been playing a rookie before now. Can you blame him for not being Timmonen? He's a smart player who can hold on to the puck and make good decisions. I think he should be on the first power play unit instead of Jones, who seemed pretty flustered and still not ready.

I thought of Denis Gauthier, too, but is he available. Do teams need to set their playoff roster before the first series? If not, I don't see any negatives with this. I like Parent but this is a tough situation to put a rookie in who hasn't played much. Gauthier has at least been playing with the Phantom's.

Modry isn't the source of any downfall. We got him for a 3rd round pick (87-90th overall).

Denis Gauthier is less skilled Hatcher. He's the exact opposite of what the Flyers need tonight.
Slow moving penalty producer.
