FRENCH TOAST

Things I love about Catherine Deneuve:

She's not afraid to wear fishnet stockings in 2004, but wouldn't, I suspect, dream of making the rest of us wear them.

She can't be upstaged -- not by Leelee Sobieski or Nastassja Kinski, with whom she's starring in a WE Women's Entertainment remake of "Dangerous Liaisons," and not even by the orange pashmina she wore to a press conference.

She's a fan of American television, especially Fox's "The Simpsons" and "24." (And, OK, NBC's "Friends.")

She speaks French. Probably better than most of us speak English. And her English is better than she claims it is.

She makes 60 look very hopeful... at least, until I remember that to look like Deneuve at 60, it probably helps to have looked like her at 20, too.
