BROTHER, CAN YOU SPARE A QUOTE?

A pride of lions, an exaltation of larks, an embarrassment of billionaires?

The lions are animated (on NBC), there are no larks in sight here at the Century Plaza, but billionaires? We got billionaires everywhere we look.

First it was Donald Trump, sweeping in with his entourage, flustering the woman in the gift shop and insisting that there'd never come a time when he'd invite "Apprentice" winner Bill Rancic -- who treats him with almost absurd deference -- to call him anything but "Mr. Trump."

Then it was Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who was here yesterday touting his ABC "reality" show, "The Benefactor," in which the dot-com billionaire gives away $1 million, and who demanded that critics call him by his first name.

Later this week, we may or may not lay eyes on Richard Branson, of Virgin fame, whose show, "The Billionaire: Richard Branson's Quest for the Best," is on Fox's schedule.

But the almost overlooked billionaire is Todd Wagner, a business partner of Cuban's who's exec-producing his show. Dressed as casually as Cuban -- who appears to be the anti-Donald from head to toe -- Wagner's also as tall, but not quite as much larger than life.

If you'd seen them together, you might assume, in fact, that he was just a far-less-wealthy buddy from college, along for the ride. A native of Gary, Ind., who now lives in Dallas, he'll happily pull up his jeans to show you how high his alligator boots go.

Only Wagner's network bio, which mentions him as Cuban's Broadcast.com partner, suggests he's more than well-heeled.

The company, which the two began with less than $5,000 in startup money, famously sold for $5.7 billion, and, well, Wagner probably did as well as his more famous friend.

So does he have as much money as "The Benefactor"?

"Yeah, pretty much," he said, a little sheepishly, when I asked him (after apologizing for the crassness of the question). In fact, he would reveal later, he probably has a little more these days, having chosen to put some of his money into a foundation for at-risk kids, not a basketball team.

So why doesn't he have a show?

"Because Mark does," he said, shrugging.
