Though Donald Trump has occasionally talked about, as one critic put it, pulling "a Garbo" and disappearing from our TV screens at some point, NBC chief Jeff Zucker's not buying it.
(I mean, he may have bought "Joey," but he's hardly the village idiot.)
"He's having a real low-key wedding this weekend," Zucker said drily when asked this morning about Trump's occasional threats in this direction, which appear to have resulted in his being signed to two more cycles of NBC's "The Apprentice" next year (and while Zucker wouldn't say whether Martha Stewart might be joining the show as well, I'm thinking there's not enough air in that boardroom to handle Trump and even a rehabilitated Martha).
So is Zucker going?
"I'm the ring-bearer. And I've been lifting weights to carry the ring," joked the diminutive network chief (Showtime viewers will be able to see for themselves in March, when Zucker plays himself in the premiere of Kirstie Alley's pseudo-"reality" show, "Fat Actress").
Bride Melania Knauss might want to seat him on the groom's side, however.
When a too-clever critic asked if his wedding-guest stint would be a "one-shot guest appearance," Zucker replied: "You're assuming there'll be only one more wedding."
