"Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry started life as a comedy writer, and a comedy writer he will always be.

Asked this afternoon about his mother -- whose revelation of her own occasional housewifely desperation inspired the series, Cherry quipped:

"Let's talk about my mom -- she wants a piece of the back end, and that's not going to happen. When the lawyers start calling, she goes into a home."
