BEFORE THEY WERE STARS

Fun fact: The first editor to buy a comic strip from "Boondocks" creator Aaron McGruder was Jayson Blair, of New York Times infamy. At the time, Blair was working on the school paper of the University of Maryland, where McGruder was also a student.

McGruder, who'll bring his "Boondocks" characters to the Cartoon Network this fall, recalls driving a hard bargain, telling Blair he wouldn't work for the $13 a strip the paper was then paying.

He held out for $30. And got it.
