Even as the nation's TV critics -- a phrase that invests us with a dignity we probably don't deserve -- sit here listening to Danny DeVito explaining why he's decided to join FX's "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," the news releases continue to pile up in our e-mail.
Just this morning, we learned that Fox will be disposing of its remaining "Arrested Development" episodes in what it's describing as a two-hour "season finale. Which will air on Feb. 10. Which, as my friend Alan Sepinwall notes in his blog, What's Alan Watching, is opposite NBC's broadcast of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.
Talk about adding insult to injury.
Meanwhile, ABC, which can't seem to grasp that America is no longer interested in watching handsome young men pretend to be fixed up with pretty-but-desperate young women on "The Bachelor," is responding to the miserable ratings for last week's premiere by running it again on Monday.
The good news: To do that, they're going to pre-empt "Emily's Reasons Why Not" and "Jake in Progress."
Still, someone could be going to hell for this.
And speaking of possible trips south, I was too busy getting ready to leave for L.A. Wednesday night to observe a moment of silence for Allentown, Pa.-based designer Marla Duran, who, I'll admit, probably went home a week too late.
But I'd liked to have seen her hang on for one more episode, given that her going meant that the Evil Santino would remain.
