EASTER BUNNY BETTER WATCH HIS TAIL

Are you one of the people who hates UPN's "Everybody Hates Chris" for having the nerve to, as one of my colleagues put it this morning, "kill Santa Claus"?

"Chris" co-creator Ali LeRoi thinks it's time the grownups grew up, telling reporters:

"First of all, my own six-year-old boy happened to be watching that show when we said, you know, Santa Claus isn't real. The show is told from the perspective of a 13-year-old boy, and that boy would not believe in Santa Claus. So that's in the landscape of our writing...It's not the Disney Channel. It's not 'Raven.' You know, it's just not that.

"But then from the standpoint of how is the audience supposed to deal with that
particular type of storytelling, well, my wife was sitting there with my son when they saw that show. And he was a little upset that there was no Santa Claus, and she told him that it's just a TV show. You know, that's what good parenting is. Parents tell their children how they're supposed to interpret things. So if a grown person freaks out when they're watching a TV show because somebody said Santa Claus doesn't exist, what's their kid supposed to believe?

"You're supposed to guide your children. We're entertainment. I'm not saying there's no responsibility for things, but we're not telling people to do responsible things. It's storytelling. And if you're sitting is there with your parent, tell the kid what he's supposed to believe. My kid went upstairs and said, "Hey, it's fine, it's cool."

I think it is another example of why parents should just "turn it off". And I really think they should. People don't really know what damage excessive TV can have on their kids healthy development. And I have to believe that if parents are letting young kids watch "Hate Chris", then I'm sure they are letting them watch alot of other shows too.

I have a 5 year old and I certainly wouldn't let her watch anything like that show. In fact, I don't let her watch anything. Even commercials are bad. The creator is right. The show is intended for 13 year olds...if you want your kid to see life through the eyes of a cynical 13 year old then its okay to watch. If you don't turn it off.

That is why we only watch videos and DVD. We know what is on them. Not healthy any other way. When are people going to get this.

Go read a book.
