OPEN 'HOUSE'

Fun facts about Fox's "House" gleaned from a Sunday night set visit/party where cast and crew members came in on their days off to entertain a group of usually jaded TV critics with tales of elevators that go nowhere, "automatic" glass doors that are operated by hand behind the scenes, and, of course, many, many fake body parts.

Having overcome my fear of televised gore while doing a story a few years back on how they make the "CSI: Miami" body parts, I only oohed and ahed a little bit over the hand pump that makes the lungs in the body cavity -- laid somewhat incongruously in a hospital bed without head or limbs -- expand and contract as if the opened torso were actually breathing.

But I'll admit to getting a kick out of some of the gadgets demonstrated by prop guy Tyler Patton, including a scalpel that spurts fake blood as he draws it across his arm, as if he's cutting himself, syringes that only appear to puncture skin and the "magic box" that actors slide into that places them below the fake chest in which "surgery's" taking place.

While the level of detail's impressive, "House" co-star Robert Sean Leonard, who helped lead my group's tour, has one complaint:

His name tag's wrong.

Turns out that a season and a half ago he was issued a name tag for Dr. Jack Wilson, although his character's name is Dr. James Wilson.

And even though he's complained repeatedly, no one, he said, has gotten him a new one (perhaps because, so far, he's the only one who's noticed).

So get those cards and letters going, people.

"Wilson" wants a new name tag.
