ONE TREE IDOL

Bucky moves back into his comfort zone with "Real Good Man" by Tim McGraw.

I never watch "Nashville Star," but I wonder if they ever resent the country-creep that's occurred on "Idol" in recent seasons. Or are they sneaking in rockers under the radar?

Paris tackles Beyonce's "Work It Out" and Randy raves and Simon scowls. I wouldn't scowl, but I'd agree with "precocious," a word that may be lost on Paris' younger fans.

Had forgotten how quickly this show can move when they're not trying to stuff 10 pounds of singing into a 25-pound bag. Can we really be at Elliott Yamin already?

To Elliott, "I Don't Want to Be" by Gavin DeGraw may be the song Bo Bice sang last season, but to some of us, I'm embarrassed to admit, it's the theme song for the WB's "One Tree Hill."

The best thing about the arrangement is that not even "Tree Hill" fans would immediately recognize it, but I'm still a little puzzled how Elliott scored the primo spot this week.

And why no one at Fox has gotten anyone to sing the theme from "The O.C." yet.
