Elliott returns to one of his favorites, "A Song for You" by Donny Hathaway, and doesn't bother to mention Ruben Studdard, who also liked this song. Very much.
I like Elliott Yamin. Very much. And I've always been a sucker for this song.
But this performance kind of makes me miss Ruben, more because of the arrangement -- which Randy complains about -- than Elliott's voice, which remains wonderful.
Paula breaks down. Not clear why. But she's moved. Very, very moved. Though it may be as much for Elliott's improved appearance as anything coming out of his mouth.
Simon compares it to a "vocal master class."
My guess? They're doing everything they can to save Elliott.
Who deserves to be saved.
I'd like to hear him sing that song differently, though.
