FROM 'JAILHOUSE' TO SIMON'S DOGHOUSE

Wth all due respect to Ryan Seacrest, I'm not sure I agree about the "big question" being who will be the "next American Idol."

Rather, I'd ask (only a little bit rhetorically):

Why is Tommy Mottola filling in for Elvis at Graceland tonight?

No, I don't know either. (Other than, of course, that Elvis is dead.)

Taylor Hicks chooses "Jailhouse Rock," which is enough to remind us that tonight's theme could be considered "Idol's" gift to Taylor.

Randy and Paula rave, Simon offers a "real world" assessment, and over the booing, we heard the words "bad impersonation" and "karaoke."

Ryan, who likes to poke the bear -- and seems to be doing it even more often since his wardrobe went upscale -- makes fun of the idea of Simon living in "the real world."

Or maybe he meant "The Real World"? Now that would be fun.
