'I BELIEVE' THE FIX IS IN

Elliott chooses "I Believe to My Soul," and if this isn't the loosening up Simon was looking for, I don't know what it is.

Randy and Paula once again worry that he's chosen a song not everyone knows, and Simon's ready to write his obituary for poor song choice, declaring him a "great guy" who will make his mother proud.

And I know that I've totally lost objectivity here, but it seems so clear that they're trying to save Kat tonight. Even if it means shipping the best singer home.

Katharine, meanwhile, has chosen "I Ain't Got Nothing But the Blues," which isn't exactly a household sound, either (and Randy doesn't think she should compare herself to Ella Fitzgerald).

Simon say, "Five steps forward, one step back," and wishes he could have reversed the order so she'd have had "Rainbow" last. But clearly he's hoping Kat has pulled it off with her middle "moment."
