'SUSPICIOUS MINDS'? WHAT SUSPICIOUS MINDS?

Chris Daughtry chooses "Suspicious Minds," which should have fit beautifully with that slightly menacing persona.

But maybe he sounds a little too much like Elvis?

And for once, not even a little bit scary.

Judges give him a pass, though.

Elliott Yamin wants to "show America my 'Love Me Tender' side" with "If I Could Dream," but maybe he should just sing "Love Me Tender"?

Or maybe not, because the judges rave, and I'm so happy to hear Elliott for once getting treated decently that I try to put aside my worry that he'll get the boot for choosing a difficult song and pulling it off, rather than choosing an easier one and playing to the masses.

Don:

I actually liked Elliot's choice of "If I can dream", but I had major problems with his inability to find the key through the first half of the song. He pulled together the second half of the song, but the damage (to me) was already done. And Cowell, who should have known better, goes and raves that it was the best vocal of the night?? To quote Simon from an earlier episode, "When you watch the tape, you'll realize that wasn't as good a performance as you think it was."
