UNDER THE RADAR, OVER THE RAINBOW

Paula chooses "What You Won't Do for Love" for Elliott for reasons that amount to blah, blah, love, blah, funky white boy, blah.

Randy thinks he was sharp, while Paula says he pierced her heart, and Simon, recovered from his Katharine problem, thinks he "sounded pretty good."

I thought so, too, though he'd probably have chosen something far more interesting for himself.

Simon then picks "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for Katharine, hoping for "the moment we've been waiting for."

If a moment can be orchestrated, then this would be the moment: She starts out a capella, then the music swells, and I really, really want to love it. But Kat can't fly and she can't quite make it over the rainbow, either.

Doesn't matter: Randy declares it "the best vocal of the season for her," and Paula gushes and Simon's happy, too, declaring it "the single best vocal of the competition to date."

Sorry, but I'm not hearing it. They're trying to make it seem like Fantasia doing "Summertime," but it's not.

And saying it won't make it so.
