Surprising no one, NBC's Kevin Reilly says the network is picking up "Nobody's Watching," the previously failed pilot from "Scrubs" producer Bill Lawrence that found new life on YouTube.
Though it's not clear yet whether the pilot itself will ever see the air on NBC -- which owns it, having developed it through NBC Universal Studios -- Lawrence has gotten the go-ahead to do some follow-up "webisodes" while developing an on-air version for later in the season.
"We were very surprised" that the show did so well on YouTube, he said, while denying the network had had anything to do with leaking it.
NBC, after repeatedly asking that YouTube remove network clips from the site, is now in business with the Web site and plans to use it as a promotional tool, he acknowledged.
And while "none of it [had] official clearance...we allowed it to happen," he said.
