KIMMEL ON THE GRILL

Jimmy Kimmel cooked my lunch today.

Celebs doing lunch with TV critics isn't uncommon during TCA press tours (though usually the celebs involved are chefs), but often it's more a matter of said celeb choosing a menu or providing some recipes to the host hotel, as Food Network star Rachael Ray did the other day when she was here to promote her new syndicated talk show. Yes, the spanikopita and tuna mini-burgers were both interesting, but mini-burgers are a staple here.

And just writing that points to one of the more decadent aspects of press tour, which is otherwise, of course, work, work and more work.

Still, imagine our surprise when we arrived on one of the Ritz Carlton terraces at lunchtime and found Kimmel actually flipping burgers. Regular-sized burgers, to boot.

Even more surprising: The burgers, concocted from Kimmel's own recipe -- teryaki sauce, dehydrated onion and garlic mixed with ground beef -- were pretty good.

I'm not sure Kimmel's fallback position if this late-night thing doesn't work out should be the Food Network, but until Conan O'Brien or Craig Ferguson shows up with a spatula, Kimmel's my go-to guy for a barbecue.
