The reporter who asked Katie Couric about her wardrobe a few days ago kept his word this morning, asking Charlie Gibson -- who was brought to us from Cyprus through the miracle of satellite -- "who" he was wearing.
Gibson, who appeared to be in on the joke -- I'm told he knew about the promise to Couric -- nevertheless seemed momentarily nonplussed, no doubt in part because satellite interviews always involve a few seconds' lag time.
"I don't know. Ask Katie," he replied first. (For the record, he was in khaki pants, a nondescript shirt with an open collar, shoes and tan socks -- OK, I'm not a fashion writer.)
Then he gave the answer that pinpoints the one thing I really do envy about males:
I have four ties and five suits and whichever one is on the right in the closet is the one I put on.
