BRITS ASIDE, IT'S AMERICA'S NIGHT

It's America again, as in America Ferrera, as the "Ugly Betty" star wins for best actress in a comedy, arriving on stage to accept already in tears.

Producer Salma Hayek also looks choked up.

And after a moving little speech, the 22-year-old, who only last night described herself to me as "bossy," pulls herself together and delivers the usual laundry list of agents, producers, network executives and all the other people who expect to be thanked and whose expectations have turned award shows into a bit of a bore.

But at least she thanked her mother first.
