DREAM ON, ROB

Rob Lowe's recently done some public moaning about having turned down the role of McDreamy on "Grey's Anatomy," but to hear "Grey's" creator Shonda Rhimes tell it, it's the actor who makes the dreams, not the dreams that make the actor.

While not denying that Lowe might have been in the running for Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, Rhimes was firm on the McDreamy issue.

"Dr. McDreamy wasn't Dr. McDreamy till we cast Patrick Dempsey," she said.

Yet again I see negative comments about Rob Lowe in your column. Have you listened to or read the entire interviews when Lowe has responded or kidded about Grey's Anatomy? We get it. You're not a fan of Rob Lowe and we can look elsewhere for any positive comments about him. Have you noticed the bump in ratings for Brothers & Sisters? Personally I'm glad he didn't get the part on GA, turned it down, one of many for the running, or whatever it was. Selfishly I wouldn't have gotten to see him in London last year in the Sorkin play A Few Good Men which he was terrific in and received great reviews. As Rob himself would say "it's all good." He's been very gracious to Dempsey and the show in his comments. And haven't we heard interesting stories in the past about actors that were considered for certain parts - clear back to Dorothy in Wizard of Oz?
I do think we can conclude that ABC has been courting Rob Lowe for its network in some capacity. And it seems to have worked out for everybody. He's great on Brothers & Sisters.

Yet another Rob Lowe foaming at the mouth about perceived slights to the actor's sterling reputation. I can only imagine he's thrilled to death that his fanbase still consists of girls who can't grasp the idea that Rob Lowe, while a beautiful specimen of a man, is not God's gift to acting.

It's a testament to his appeal that his most vocal fans are about as mature and sophisticated as his earlier sexploits were, and have become so predictable in their rants they must even bore themselves some days.

I know they bore me to hell, and have turned me against an actor that used to pass under my radar most days.
