DREW CAREY, COME ON DOWN

So is Drew Carey getting ready to step into Bob Barker's shoes on "The Price Is Right"?

Carey, who's here talking up his new CBS game show, "Power of 10," doesn't really need the work, and in fact, after the cancellation of "The Drew Carey Show," "I didn't want to do TV ever for the rest of my life," he says.

Fortunately, he doesn't have to: He still has plenty of money, still gets recognized in restaurants and has all the time in the world to nurture his latest obsession, with L.A.'s soccer team, the Galaxy.

In other words, "I had all of these benefits of TV but none of the work."

But then Michael Davies, who'd helped get Carey's pet project, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" on to American TV, called about hosting "Power of 10," in which contestants can win up to $10 million by correctly guessing poll results.

"It's not an audition" for "Price," Carey insists, while acknowledging that he was approached about the job after CBS saw the pilot for "Power of 10."

So could he do both?

Apparently so, says Carey, who confirms that talks are ongoing. "The other show is right at CBS and it's six months a year."

There might just be a hitch, though: "One of the things we're having trouble with right now is I want to change the name of the show to 'The Magic Golden Wheel,'" Carey jokes.

But seriously, folks, "that show needs to be treated with a lot of respect."

And while Carey won't give odds of any kind as to his chances of ending up on "Price," he did say it's the kind of thing he has in mind.

"Fun, easy to do, not work. I wouldn't consider doing 'Price Is Right' work at all."
