Here's my op-ed column from Wednesday's Daily News. Please feel free to add your perspective below.
SEN. Hillary Clinton may have been able to play some other parts of the country for suckers, but she's in for a rude awakening in no-nonsense Philly - like her drop-in at Temple last night.
Over the last couple of weeks, as part of her "throwing-the-kitchen-sink-at-Barack-Obama" strategy, Clinton has started to maintain that only she and John McCain are ready to assume the the presidency, and the role of commander in chief. No fewer than four times now, she's said that she and John McCain will bring a "lifetime of experience" to the White House, while Sen. Obama will bring "a speech from 2002," referring to his prescient speech warning against war with Iraq.
She has also said that only she and McCain have crossed the "commander in chief threshold," and Sen. Obama has not. And, of course, who can forget the infamous "3 a.m. phone call" ad?
Together, her statements are hard-hitting, and make clear that she believes that not only is Sen. Obama less qualified than Sen. McCain to be president, but that he has no business even getting close to the White House.
At the same time, she's certainly made an effort to woo voters with the prospect of being able to vote for both of the woman and the African-American as part of a Clinton-Obama ticket, though Sen. Obama has flatly rejected the idea, saying, "You won't see me as a vice presidential candidate."
Nonetheless, last week in Mississippi, Sen. Clinton said that voters who would like to vote for both of them at the same time might get that chance "someday." Just a day later, Bill Clinton said such a ticket would be "almost unstoppable," promoting the prospect.
Well, simple logic tells you that you can't have it both ways. The No. 1 reason a candidate picks a particular vice-presidential running mate is that that person is "ready on day one" (or so they say). Indeed, Bill Clinton in 1992 said of Al Gore, "And above all, I said I wanted a vice president who would be ready, should something happen to me, to immediately assume the office of president of the United States."
Immediately.
That's the way it should be. It's not so long ago that Gerald Ford took over for Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson took over for John Kennedy and Harry Truman had to step in for FDR.
Sometimes, there's no time for on-the-job training, either. William Henry Harrison died just 30 days into office, leaving John Tyler to jump right in.
Sen. Clinton can't have it both ways, even though she'd like to fool you into thinking that she can. Either Sen. Obama is so unqualified for office that she wouldn't possibly risk the nation by making him her vice president, or she thinks that he is eminently qualified to step in and be commander in chief on day one.
So, as Hillary Clinton tours the Philadelphia area, why don't you ask her for a dose of truth? Let her know that Philadelphians don't like to be played for dummies.

As an Arizonan since 2000 who is absolutely terrified at the notion of "President McCain," I hear the venom spewed by the Clinton camp toward Obama that can only assure a McCain victory in November if Obama gets the nomination. And in his victory speech President-elect McCain must first thank Hillary Clinton for inflicting the wounds on Sen. Obama that allowed the McCain campaign to bleed the Democratic candidate into defeat.
Her scorched-earth, win-at-all-cost approach hurts Democrats, Republicans and Independents all! When are we going to wake up and say, "The Bush, Clinton, Bush era is over; the time for change is now; the politics of hate, deceit and distrust must end; and America deserves better?"
Sen. Obama is certainly not "the second coming," nor is he definitively the JFK or RFK of this generation. But he deserves a proper vetting, not one that continually toes the racial line, steps over it, then retreats while throwing up its hands and claiming otherwise. Race, gender, age have nothing to do with this campaign. Leadership that has been so lacking these last 7 years, that is what is needed. The politics of hate and discontent have led for too long. It's time for all of us to say enough is enough and to look for something different.
Sen. Obama may not be the "perfect" candidate, but he certainly represents a sector of America that is ready to change direction from the politics of the last 3 decades.
I only hope that Pennsylvanians can demonstrate the discipline to summon "earmuffs" as the Clinton camp meticulously goes after Obama by playing the race card. Allowing that destructive strategy to work only assures a McCain victory in November, and moves America closer to the line of perpetual war.
PA, please stop the madness! You can end this now, and we will all be better off for it.

When all is said and done, I suspect James Carville's assessment of Pa. as Philly and Pittsburgh, with Arkansas/Alabama? in the middle will hold true. Race is shaping this contest and will be huge factor in the final numbers.
"Let her know that Philadelphians don't like to be played for dummies". For a city that elected John Street twice and the current collection of hacks on city council, that is quite a stretch. Expect them to follow, as lemmings do, the union, black clergy, etc. guidance of making the wrong choices, as usual.

I can understand Gov. Ed Rendell endorsing Hillary Clinton but I can't understand why Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter in the City of Independence would not remain neutral. Mayor Nutter, bowing down to the Rendell political machine, and endorsing a Senator from New York in his home town has proven to be a "Loyalist". The great Thinkers for American Independence did not make up their minds without debate. Mayor Nutter following Rendell's lead in Philadelphia of all places deserves to be labeled a "Tory".

I am very upset with the Media they are looking out for themselves not the public, and so they don't say that Barack Obama's pastor has been preaching hatred for more than twenty years. I find it strange when the media goes after Hillary more than after Obama on commments made by each side. Unfair isn't just what I have been seeing they have been going out of there way to go after Hillary Clinton. I know that everyone thinks that there maybe fighting in the streets if this doesn't go there way?
Look were looking at a Woman President ,or a African American, But then again I don't want the next President learning on the Job. Should hatred be part of the Presidency?

Should hatred be part of the Presidency? by jim 3/14:
CNN cover the story on Obama's spiritual leader last night saying this sermon was not the first of it's kind.
I would have walked out within the first 15 minutes and never returned. Obama stayed for 20 years and this just blows me away- literally.

Why does the spin say Hillary's offer is an insult to Obama? Both were initially asked this in the debate about the other as VP and it earned cheers. So many would love to vote for both! In her speeches she alludes to a joint ticket -- what should she say, Gee, I hope Obama asks me to be his VP!? I saw it as her willingness to run with him and his response (though later tempered) as a rude slap down to the hopes of all of us who do dream of this team.

Can it be a coincidence that us pennsylvanians are not so smart? well i think were smart enough tonot be so stupid.the clintons will say and do anything to get back into the white-house.they have changed there opinions from left to right, over and over again.at leaste obama is sticking to the same issues and standards, over and over.thats the kind of President i want.after all a women scorned=twice.

Maybe in another parallel universe Hillary campaign is playing race but not in this one.
What are you people seeing?
Wake up for your dream barak has promised you.
See that Obama is a security risk to this country.
With Rev.Wright on his record who knows what other countries could do with this.
And by the way after 20yrs obama knows Wright.
Obama named his book after Wright,he was married by Wright, baptised by Wright, his children baptised by Wright, obama home blessed by Wright,
home bought from Reszko.
He knows exactly who he is and what he stands for. Why was Wright working on obama campaign?
Why is Wright all of a sudden overseas? What are they hiding? Is Wright in Lybia or Syria? Wright
gave an award to Farrakan and went to Lybia with him. Also theres Reszko who's a crook connected to Syria. Then there Baraks friend whos part of
the Weathermen group of radicals that were at war against united states and read about Alinsky who was another flim flam friend who was an obama mentor.
Do your homework and put your thinking cap on
and check Barak out.
We know Hillary and she was made to be our President. No Questions.

Always Hillary Clinton like Bill Clinton responds to the "hard" questions as the lawyer that she is, talking in circle after circle--never saying truly anything that the listener can walk away with as her response. But on the campaign trail of late as Senator Obama has outdistanced her, she speaks very, very directly: She becomes a bellicose termagant.
In Ohio, "Shame on you Senator Obama." "Meet me in Ohio." Lately in Fair Hills, PA plant, she scolds before the plant employees gathered for her stomp spin, "How dare he come here (Senator Obama)? Termagant style she's putting Senator Obama down again. Senator Clinton had the right to seek their votes, not him. Yes, Hillary should control the campaign stomping grounds of Obama? Crazy!
I think Philadelphians are reasoned in choosing between her and Senator Obama. When the race became no cakewalk for her, Hillary moved into her "fun part" and the anything goes mode by her surrogates. And she herself has been fightly hellishly and weirdly: In one breath belittling Senator Obama and in the next with her husband Bill declaring Senator Obama to be her veep choice.
What a lot of instability of position and behavior by a presidential hopeful! The choice is between the bellicose termagant determined to be first woman president by any means or the unity warrior offering a platform of "Standing on Change" and "Hope We Can Believe In".

Some choose to forget there is freedom of worship. The worship and church Barack Obama prefers is his choice and none of anyone's business, since this over 20 year old church is not a national security threat. If it were, it would have been shut down by the government of the United States of America. Senator Obama has rejected words spoken by the pastor Wright that are incendiary "political statements."
Poor democrats, they know not what they do. . . .the Fl and Michigan vote fiasco. . . Now some would deny another Freedom of Worship by spin. Look around you. There is the reality of the Black Church rooted in the history of this country. It is O.K. for the Irish to be catholic, apparently. So, me, Obama? I was brought up African Methodist Episcopal in Philadelphia, PA. I am an American. My heritage is African, although I do not have that knowledge. While the Irish, can care about things Irish, the black American is challenged to care about things African and from whence his forebears come.
Senator Obama is rejecting the "political statements" of pastor Wright, correctly because they are incendiary. But can voters call on Mr. Obama as candidate for the nomination to the presidency, to reject himself: He is African and Euro-Amrican by birth, having been born to Kansan mother and Kenyan father. And Barack Obama correctly could be called an "empty suit," but only if he were to reject himself, his bi-racial heritage, and the freedom of worship for himself and his family.
Much is radically wrong in Denmark. Common sense will tell the youth and the rest of the voters, and we do have common sense, that if Hillary Clinton with the Clinton machine behind her, former first lady and former president spouse, could not defeat Barck Obama Super Tuesday, Hillary Clinton is not the change the reasoned and passionate voters of the U.S.A. are seeking.
Let us give unity a chance, hard though this may be since Americans are so, so many ethnicities. This critique of the faith of Mr. Obama is a "vetting," it would seem to a reasoned supporter of Mr. Obama. If it comes from Hillary campaign, so be it, because this kind of vetting could very well come from the McCain campaign sooner or later. Obama '08. Yes, We Can!

To the author of this article:
Telling Philadelphians what to think and what to say
suggests YOU (Not Hillary Clinton) think Philadelphian's are dummies.
------------------------
During the Feb 19th debates in Ohio Senator Obama who also serves as Chair of the subcommittee that has oversight over NATO admitted he has not held one single substantive hearing to figure out what the U.S can do to have a stronger presence with Nato in Afghanistan.
Obama admitted ‘Well, first of all, I became chairman of this committee at the beginning of this campaign, at the beginning of 2007. So it is true that we haven't had oversight hearings on Afghanistan." [MSNBC Debate, 2/27/08]
So while tens of thousands of our young men and women are at great risk and being killed in Afghanistan Obama’s admission that he was too busy running for president clearly proves he is not only NOT ready to be president, but someone should question his position as a senator as well.
The day after Senator Carl Levin (D-MI), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee noted that Senator Clinton has introduced more legislation to address the problems facing wounded service members than any other Senator, including The Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act (accomplished while running her presidential race).
The decisions is a NO BRAINER for me.

Regarding your ending directive, "Let her (Hillary) know that Philadelphians don't like to be played for dummies."
"Why don't YOU let Hillary know what YOU think to her face and give Philadelphians the respect they deserve to think and choose for themselves" because to think for themselves clarifies they are not "Dummies."

When it mattered most to the American people and U.S. military personnel, both Senators John McCain and Hillary Clinton failed to demonstrate any qualifications to be commander-in-chief when they accepted without question the faulty intelligence used to justify the Iraq war and both misjudged the Bush administration's competencies to lead the war effort.
Barack Obama on the other hand demonstrated his commander-in-chief and leadership qualifications when he took a more unpopular position and cautioned in 2002 that without clear rationale an invasion of Iraq would encourage the worst impulses of the Arab world and strengthen Al Qaeda's recruitment.

Clinton indicated she "MIGHT BE" open to the idea of a dual ticket "SOMEDAY."
She didn't say definitely, she didn't absolutely, she didn't
say this November 2008.
She understands that people on both sides are passionate about
this race and their candidates and wants to see a democrat in the White House.
Obama's "No Thank You" to an invitation that never arrived,
was premature, arrogant and that his race is ego-driven,
For all his quoting and suggesting that he's the new JFK he clearly missed "Ask not what this country can do for you but what you can do for this country?"
This entire exchange shows Clinton is the mature candidate who cares about the outcome for this country and is in fact not the divisive candidate in this race.

Obama sat in the pews of his church for 20 years listening to his spiritual leader Rev. Wright who has been known to preach
anti-american, anti-white and hate-filled sermons.
This contradicts your belief that Obama takes the unpopular vote or that he agrees with Rev Wright. He's clearly lacking the kind of qualifications American's need in a comander -in-chief.

Sen. Clinton & Pres Clinton both have a Pattern of Non-Disclosure. This Rezko issue is small potatoes!
Why won't she disclose her Earmarks? Why won't she release 2000-2006 Tax Returns? Why aren’t the Clinton Library Donor Lists being released (2000)? Because they have a pattern that will become clear in the course of their current Fraud Trial
Here's some Background: Sen. & Pres Clinton assisted in organizing a combined fundraiser for her 2000 Senate Campaign (which is illegal) and raising funds for Pres Clinton's Library. They didn't properly report the money raised and still hasn’t. They returned a $2,000 check to Multimillionaire Promoter Peter Paul and the FEC found that he actually spent 1.2 Million on this fundraiser. His side of the story can be found if you Google "Hillary Uncensored." Watch the video, look at how many stars were there; they are being deposed and giving testimony under oath now. Anyway, he is appealing the case which was thrown out by a Judge Matz, appointed by Pres Clinton and will get his day in court.
DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. Go to www.lasuperiorcourt.org (Los Angeles Superior Court) and look in the CIVIL Column, then Click on CASE SUMMARIES then enter these numbers in the box BC304174. Yep! It is an active case and has been since January. She has not disclosed it even after bringing up Rezko and calling Sen. Obama "Ken Starr" I call that bold!!!
I think, before we go any further, she needs to disclose this. The Republicans already know about it and they are hoping to clobber her with it in the fall. They want to run against Senator Clinton, because they know that John McCain can win with this undisclosed junk out there. Polls Schmoles...the people who are being polled don't know about this so the polls are
So shouldn’t it follow that the lack of coverage of this issue makes them only partially informed? You know better than I do how this will play out in a McCain / Clinton fight. It will be yet another Clinton Scandal and they will use it against the Party. She should step down now before re-do’s start. Rendell shouldn’t be raising money for either state until his testimony is taken in this trial and it is clear that it is not a conflict of interest for him.
HERE IS THE QUESTION: WHO DO YOU THINK CARL ROVE WANTS TO RUN AGAINST.

Does Obama Walk the Change Talk?
(NY Times article)
“Obama in Senate: Star Power, Minor Role”
Excerpts: Mr. Obama took few bold stands and diverted little from the liberal orthodoxy he had embraced in the Illinois Senate. His voting record in his first year in Washington, according to the annual rankings by National Journal, was more liberal than 82.5 percent of the Senate.
He worked with Senator Tom Coburn, Republican of Oklahoma and one of the most conservative in the chamber, to establish a public database to examine government spending after Hurricane Katrina.
But for the most part, he stuck to party lines; there were few examples of the kind of bipartisan work he advocates in his current campaign.
He disappointed some Democrats by not taking a more prominent role opposing the war — he voted against a troop withdrawal proposal by Senators John Kerry of Massachusetts and Russ Feingold of Wisconsin in June 2006, arguing that a firm date for withdrawal would hamstring diplomats and military commanders in the field.
He was running for president even as he was still getting lost in the Capitol’s corridors.
You can search this article's title on NY times for the complete story.
----------------------------
Obama is almost 50 years old and has absolutely no record to date that proves he lives by his words
or philosophy that he’s a change agent.
Obama IS politics as usual and frankly falls below the mark of contributions.
Lose the slogan. It’s inauthentic and divisive to the democratic party.

While Hillary tries to talk about the issues, Obama is promising change. Obama and Michelle have been married for 16 years. Obama has known Rev. Wright for 20 years. If Obama is really an agent of change, why hasn't he been able to change the negative attitudes about America of just two of the people closest to him – Michelle and Rev. Wright?
I do not believe that Obama has never heard any of Rev. Wright's radical sermons. Many people have said they go to church and don't agree with everything their religious leader says. But those many people are not running for president and promising the American people that they will change the way our government operates and they will unite people of all races and religions.
Obama has known for years that he was going to run for president. He has been very open about his using Rev. Wright as a mentor and an adviser. It's impossible that Rev. Wright never expressed his negativism toward America during their "mentoring" sessions. In 2006, just two years ago, Obama wrote "The Audacity of Hope", a title that he lifted from one of Rev. Wright's sermons. The fact that Obama was so close to Rev. Wright and then uninvited him to speak on the day he announced his run for the presidency is proof that he wasn't willing to take a chance on what Rev. Wright might say.

You gotta love people that post slime and don't sign their names to it.
That said, this country is at a crossroads. We can continue to let our *leaders* appeal to our most base instincts of hate and fear, or we can try something new that is driven by us instead of them.
Hannity has been showing Clintons 3 or 4 same 30 second film clips for 3 days now...isn't it curious that Reverend Wright has been preaching and lecturing for 35 years and all they can come up with to show is 90 seconds of weirdness?
Has anyone bothered to investigate how the Reverend has been leading his church for the rest of those long 35 years? How much good they have done for one of the communities the rest of us have forgotten about? No...of course not.
Reverend Wright is not running for President. In our country you are not accused of wrongdoing by association.
This is a kerfuffle without merit. Vote hope.

Obama has one flaw he is black and we in this nation will not accept the leader of this country to be black. If he could stop the educational slide the crime and fix the economy to be prosperous, find an acceptable solution for medical health care and make life great for all it still wouldn't be enough. Maybe in the next 300 or so years race wont be an issue
