Kudos to Governor Rendell for putting our kids first. Read our editorial (below, or here) and then take action by calling your elected official today.
FOR MANY parents in the workforce, particularly those raising children on their own, the cost of quality child care can be out of reach - and high-quality child care, which is part of early-childhood education, is even pricier. According to a report from Public Citizens for Children and Youth, the average cost of such care for two children was more than $19,000 in 2007.
The state Department of Public Welfare provides subsidies for low-income parents, but thousands of Philadelphia-area families are stuck on a waiting list. That translates into more than 1,600 children from the city and 7,850 children statewide waiting for benefits.
Gov. Rendell has proposed increasing the number of available slots by 2,600. And state Sen. Mike Stack and state Rep. Tony Payton have proposed $9 million more to cut the waiting list in half. That's a worthwhile investment. Children who receive high-quality child care are more likely to graduate from high school, find steady employment and stay out of prison. And researchers estimate the public saves $4 to $17 on future costs for every dollar spent on early-childhood education.
Elected officials in Harrisburg should support this worthy program. *

Dear Ms. Colgan
i am sorry to inform you that your perspective on the Democratic campaign, as presented on above show, is both naive and grossly inaccurate. You appear, like many obama supporters in denial, to actually imagine that this divisive, hypocritical candidate and his campaign will be supported by the base of the Democratic Party.
You are either totally out of touch or you are merely saying what you want people to believe. In fact, if you actually were versed in authentic political analysis you could not believe what you said yourself.
The base of the Democratic party will not support a Presidential ticket with barack obama included in any way. Far too many of us have researched this candidate. Evidently, you have not. As has best been said of him:
"He says nothing and you hope he means what you hear."
Not only will major demographics not vote for obama. Many, in growing numbers will withdraw affiliation from the party if he is given the nomination. Furthermore, not only would we vote Republican for the first time in our lives, we will actively campaign against down-ticket democrats who, as Super Delegates, have misappropriated their vote for obama, in districts and states where these SDs have overtly contradicted the will of the voters.
Despite the attacks, pressure, threats and derisions which we have experienced by obama supporters, the solidity of our position is based on the lack of integrity and corrupt, dangerous background of this candidate himself. We are immune to obama camp threats as we are to their superficial manipulative charms.
It is unfortunate that you, being a presumed professional in politics, know so tragically little about the man you choose to go on national TV to promote. Don't overstep your position again by presuming to tell national television what the democratic base will do. We have studied the man, his voting records, his background, his associates and the frequent flagrant contradictions between what he says and what he does.
Reinvent the base,if you'd like, to be composed of radical leftism, AA reparation and the less informed half of the youth vote, all combined with the politicians who have accepted obama's bribes and promises. Then go your merry way together. But do not dream we will go off that cliff with you - and do not publicly speak, erroneously, predicting we will do otherwise.
Perhaps, if you'd like some practice in political analysis, begin with a study of the electoral map.

Your Citizenhunter website. You are a fascinating person, and yes blessed in many ways. Would love to discuss philosphy with you sometime. It appears as though you are doing a great job in striking the balance between being "In the world" but not "of the world"... A very important distinction, don't you think?
Hope your Extra segment goes well..Dan

I was ready to comment on Governor Rendell's wonderful contribution to what is becoming a commonplace frustration for not only lower but middle income families. Children are our future and difficulties in taking care of them need to be alleviated for everyone.
However, I was appalled by the misinformed remark stated on May 23 about Obama. First of all, if the person wants to negate the accuracy of your commentary, then they should back up their challenge with some facts instead of hot air.
