I've written before on my reservations about having the Clintons back in the White House. My column in today's Daily News, however, is from a purely pragmatic perspective.

Wow, that was pretty aggressive. I am not totally convinced with Barak as I was with Kerry and John Edwards.
I give Hillary credit, I don't think there is anything wrong with her not giving up.

Suddenly in the last few weeks, Hillary is coming out stating that she is the superior candidate. She had over a year and 20+ debates to show her superiority. But for most of the primary season, she was the inferior candidate. Lucky for her, Rev Wright was released to the general public by righty pundits to weaken Obama. It put alot of doubts into white voters' minds. So it wasn't about how wonderful Hillary was, it was hey wait, does Obama really have a secret agenda? And this has led to her arguement of whether he is electable. This is the primaries, in the general she will be a lightning rod for every right pundit to attack attack attack and her multiple negatives will be highlighted like a billboard in Times square. These primary polls mean absolutely nothing especially here in May. The arguement that Obama is unelectable has been so overplayed by Hillary, her surrogates and the media. The Rev Wright situation definitely put alot of thoughts in white people's head's of how could someone as reasonable and thoughtful as Obama have sat in the pews of Rev Wright. I have not heard the 1000s of his other sermons nor do I know the full extent of his work in the community...so why do I have to form an instant judgement because a few pundits force-feed me 3 minutes of controversial material....I want to stop myself from overreacting and from immediately labelling people which is always so much easier than using our brains ...this person is a liberal, that person is a conservative...so easy to make those blanket judgements....I voted for Reagan but I am not a Republican and I voted for Kerry but I am not a Democrat. Friends of mine who are usually fair-minded were disturbed by the rattlings of Wright. Some of what he said was reasonable to at least contemplate, other things were outrageous conspiracy theories that come out of past transgressions. I disagree with most of what Wright said but I can still listen and discern the sentiment to try to understand him. What really disturbed me was his arrogance at the Press Club press conference ....if he thought the questioners to be ignorant by the questions they asked, why act superior? why not show some humility and disarm the haters? Obama was equally disturbed and did what he had to do.
So it's May and Obama is not doing well with white voters in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and other similar states......there are 6 months to reach out to this voter block. Obama will pick a running mate like Chuck Hagel, a republican or Sam Nunn, a conservative democrat and that voter block will see someone they are more familiar with and more comfortable with and see that this person is part of the Obama ticket and maybe they need to give Obama a second look. They will hear things that makes sense with their own social and economic standing and maybe Obama doesn't have a radical agenda as they had feared, though hopefully it is radical in terms of getting rid of lobbyists and working for the people rather than Big Interests. So now they will have 6 months to think it over and realize that if these somewhat conservative 'white' politicians are willing to team with Obama, then maybe their fears were overblown and the hope that Obama offers is real. There is still alot of prejudice in this country and it will take some time for some people to wrap their minds around an African-American as President (those of us who are '24' fans got a glimpse and were were endeared to President Palmer for 2 seasons). Six months in a politics is like 5 lifetimes.....so lets all stop jumping on a sound bite or a poll or looped concept and try to use our brains to process information rather than overreact to media-fed nonsense. I look forward to Obama versus McCain because there we have the best chance of a debate about the issues. The fringes on both sides will try to distract us but it will be our job to stay focused on what changes we want for our country. Let Hillary go back to working hard for NY state and let Bill go back to raising money for tornado and cyclone victims.

"How do you want to be remembered? Your legacy and your husband's will be forever tarnished if you continue to run a campaign which argues that Obama is not electable, and uses Sen. John McCain's talking points to prove it.
"Your husband will no longer be remembered as America's first "black president," but as part of the cabal that took down America's best shot at an actual African-American president.
You'll be remembered as the woman who was more interested in staying on the stage too long, to get a few more seconds of the spotlight than helping elect a president who has much more in common with you than the Republican nominee. From Harlem to the Senate floor, that kind of legacy will cast a dark, cold shadow on you, forever."
What a racist crock! How dare you use that kind of trash talk and intimidation? Your candidate has not won the nomination, and until he does, Senator Clinton has every reason and right to continue until someone does! It's rhetoric like yours that is dividing the Democratic party.

Well, it is a done deal for me. John Edwards has come out and endorsed Barak. I was waiting for John's endorsement.
That coupled with Bruce Springsteen's endorsement and Barak is my man!

I'll give Obama one thing, he sure can talk. He has the gift of gab. He also says all the right things. My question is this since you seem to be a very strong Obama supporter, why does the Rev. Wright scandel not matter to you ? It took Oprah maybe 2 years of listening to Wright to figure out his message of hate and racial tones. Why did it take Obama 20 years to figure out that message ? 20 years of sitting in those pews listening to the rhetoric of Rev. Wright. That message is a part of Obama whether you want to admit it or not, 20 years is a long time to take part in that message.. do you agree ?

Nice exchange with Paul B. on CNN tonight!! I love his facial remarks when you were like "yeah let's not go to Mississippi and campaign after we win a special election seat".
Good job!!!!!
My mom (the Chaplain) said she is there for you if you need her!

Hi Flavia -
I don't know if you remember us - we met you a couple of years ago on a train – going or coming from Philadelphia (diane’s a music therapist, me an advertising writer ... ring a bell at all?).
Either way, we’re rabid fans now and when they re-ran your Larry King thing with Lanny Davis last night we were yelling ‘Go Flavia!’ at the screen. He’s such a hack and your defense of Obama’s position(s) was sharp and strong.
Please keep that up

Your columns are always entertaining and informative.
But you have rose colored glasses about Barack
Obama. He is involved in one of the greatest crimes of the century-hijacking the democratic process so he
will be guaranteed the nomination.Does the democratic party really believe the voters have forgotten 2000?
To remind them, the "impartial" Republican Supreme
Court illegally hijacked the election for George Bush in Florida. Now democrats are doing the same thing in Florida and Michigan. The reality is there is no front runner if you count Michigan and Florida.Barack is a great oratorical speaker but vague on details. And his Reverend Wright should lose his passport and be exiled to Cuba. Wright is not just critical-he's an extreme socialist

hey flavia,
flaunt your feminism. join the crowd shouting down Senator Clinton's merits on national tv while you stand up for a man who called a feminist senator (Barbara Boxer) a *charmer* and a *cutie* last year – what an introduction to an accomplished female senator, eh Flavia? add that to his blatantly sexist *Hillary is *throwing dishes* and *throwing the kitchen sink* remarks in Pennsylvania. But hey, he’s a gentleman – he’s pulls out Hillary’s chair during debates! Take off the Ray-Vans and wake up at the sexism that disturbs a great many of us. For some of us women, this type of behavior is a deal-breaker, Flavia.
Also, some of us Clinton supporters appreciate Clinton staying in the race because Obama’s campaign has been everything BUT substance. it is so outrageous that such an arrogant stance is assumed that Hillary should drop out and even more horrific that it is some nasty media show, of which you are a part, to push someone out who is *virtually* tied with your preferred candidate. If Obama was 100 delegates behind and Michigan and Florida weren’t counted, what sort of tactics would your Obama camp be taking to ensure they were counted?

Right on point as usual. Keep up the good work.

"Disclaimer" I supported Hillary, with a vote and financially.
So far I have not seen Obama EVER claim that Hillary should drop out. His campaign spokespeople may have said that, but that's their job, trying to get him the nomination any way possible. He has not said anything wrong. If he does become the nominee lets hope he beats Bush/McClain and does what he says he wants to do. Eight years of Bush is enough without electing Bush light/McClain to another term.
By the way, how come he's always referred to by his last name and she's Hillary?
