The Defense Department plans to double or even triple the health care fees paid by some of our military retirees. Our government cannot just say "We Support the Troops" - our policies must prove that we do. Write to your Senator and Congressman and tell them to support S. 2617, the Hagel-Lautenberg Military Retirees' Health Care Protection Act.
This important legislation ensures our veterans will be protected from soaring health care prices by limiting increases to TRICARE military health insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-payments.

...also the GI BILL, which we pay into 100 dollars a month for 12 months (our share) is expected to increase significantly. As we the military and our families are asked to do more abroad to win this war, we are asked to sacrifice more at home, meanwhile, everyone else is asked to fly and go to the mall and shop. Can someone please tell me what the strategy is here?
Posted by: joe at April 25, 2006 02:23 PMThis is garbage, You give atleast 20 years of your life to the Service of your choice and you shouldnt have to pay any healthcare fees for the rest of your life. I mean, how are you going to work up the guts to ask for more money from somebody who may have given his best in the defense of his country in either Vietnam or Iraq. It just inflames me to hear that these healthcare costs are rising when we still have a Welfare Programs which many lazy and unproductive Americans use as a crutch to not have to work despite producing kids that they will never be able to fully support. Have we forgotten that without our Servicemen, our country would not be where it is today. How dare some punk politician move to raise these cost, have you no respect!
Posted by: Edmond at April 25, 2006 11:36 PMThe Republicans in Congress' actions show us that they view Vets benefits as welfare, plain and simple. But there is a huge difference. Taxes pay for welfare benefits. Vets benefits are paid for in blood.
Posted by: Joe at April 25, 2006 11:51 PMThere are troops running around with lead in them from IED's and 7.62X39 rounds (those are what come out of the business end of an AK-47), who get better as quick as they can so they can get back with their mates and get in the fight. The last things these folks need is the question of "will there be medical coverage for me when I am done?"
absolutely unbelievable that the governement who asks it's citizens to go fight and give their all, at the same time wants to leave them in a lurch when they are done.
Posted by: jimbolio at April 26, 2006 05:11 PMIt's a team effort, any fight worth undertaking. We need to work together to win and to take care of our vets.
