As I have mentioned before, in the current climate the Internet is the most open and independent venue for news. It helps to foster cooperation and democratic ideals; net neutrality is therefore a must! Don't forget to take action by talking to your Representatives and cable companies.
Check out these great Jon Stewart clips (1, 2, 3) on YouTube. He is one of the few on TV giving this story the attention it deserves and he certainly is a lot more fun to listen to than I am about net neutrality.
Those were hilarious examples. Unfortunately, reality - not so funny. One only needs to imagine paying more to get from point a to point b. If you have ever paid a toll on a bridge or a turnpike then you can understand that it will cost more to go a little faster. Its a way to pay for the construction of that highway, usually. Hard to get worked up over.
But as I was walking my dog, I imagined having to pay more for walking on my block. Or going to church a few blocks from my house, or the store, or some place I am used to going for free. Except for church, I probabaly wouldn't go as much, because I couldn't afford something that had already belonged to me - that had already been "free". Now I am starting to imagine the implications. Not so free is this idea of "tubes", and not so funny anymore. Thanks for the YouTube examples. Now I need to tell my buddies who are just now getting interested in the net. Would hate to stifle "Big Ed's Sports Fan Paradise" in it's infancy.
The Daily Show clips are hilarious. How the people of Alaska continue to elect Ted Stevens is beyond me. Perhaps his inability to understand the internet explains his inability to understand that Alaska is a beautiful state with scenery unparalelled in our country, and and that Congress should not allow the big oil companies to rape the land for the sake of even larger profits.
Posted by: Steve at August 2, 2006 10:16 AMDoes everything have to have a price? The things we eat and drink, the air we breath, the beach, the mountains, the sunsets in the desert, the friends we make, our ability to communicate with each other, all gifts in one way or another. And to start this division of haves and have-nots, now, when we need to talk to each other more than ever and share our ideas? I will come here and leave an inadequate word or two but I assure you that we will "pay it forward" and pass the word. Thank you.
