A friend sent me a partial transcript (after jump) of Rush Limbaugh, on my MSNBC appearance about the funding of 'Path to 9/11,' picking a fight with me but not knowing how to pronounce my name.
For Rush's convenience I have included here an MP3 that he can click and hear me say it...
And here's an extra-sultry version since I know Rush loves progressive women!
Here's the part of the transcript dealing with my name. You have to register to get the whole thing, but you can see the relevant portion here:
RUSH: And then the next bite is this. Actually, different, different. It's not the same guy. That, again, was University of Pennsylvania professor Michael Delli Carpini. On MSNBC yesterday the anchor babe, Milissa Rehberger, talking to Democrat strategerist Flavia Colgan. (Maybe it's Flah-via, I don't know. I've never heard it pronounced.) Rehberger says, "After you saw The Path to 9/11, were you upset ABC didn't pull it altogether or did the edited version make a difference?"COLGAN: Oh, absolutely not! One, I think it undercuts the credibility of the film when you have it being released to Rush Limbaugh beforehand! $40 million funding it, we don't know where it's coming from! Sandy Berger and Clinton were -- were well, um, within their rights certainly to appeal to Tom Kean, the Republican co-chairman of the 9/11 Commission --
RUSH: Stop the tape! $40 million and we don't know where it came from? How about ABC? It's an ABC movie, Flavia-Flah-via. Touchstone put it out. I do have the DVDs. It irritates them so much. They can't get over this! They're beside themselves over the fact that I got the DVDs. But I wasn't the first, Flavia-Flah-via. How many times have I got to say this? This movie was screened to the national press and half the audience was Democrats including Richard Ben-Veniste and some people from the 9/11 Commission. I was not first on the list. I had nothing to do with writing this thing! I didn't even talk to Cyrus Nowrasteh in the process. All I knew was, some years, ago he was working on it. But, frankly, when he told me about it, it went in one ear and out the other because I figured, "This thing doesn't have prayer, but go for it, Cyrus." I didn't even get all the details. I had no clue what this thing was going to be before I saw it! They think I wrote it. They think I guided Cyrus and his people. This is an ABC project, folks! This is ABC project, and I'll bet you before all this hubbub came up, this thing was so good, I will bet you ABC, Iger thought it was one of the greatest things they've ever produced internally.
Again, for Rush's benefit, here's a different take on that funding question. And here's my original column on the issue and the MSNBC Live appearance that got him so hot and bothered.
Oh my word! Flahhh-via!! I am laughing my ass off!

Posted by: stryker at September 15, 2006 05:19 PMWith the terrorism activity of the 90's, I don't recall much in the way of retaliation from the Clinton Administration.
I think Rush is a blowhard who says what he says to annoy the left. And it's working.
Flavia seems to be alright with the depiction of a sitting president being assassinated, however.
DenMoron: how aptly named you are. Why are you so full of hate?
Posted by: cosmosis at September 15, 2006 07:50 PMHuh. Flaahvia might be able to tell us, what exactly was Sandy Berg(l)er taking from the Natl Archives?? Pray tell, since he's such a historically credible 9/11 source.
Posted by: Steve at September 15, 2006 11:23 PMIt's always interesting when two sociopathic political chowhounds go at each other under the impression of how self-important they are...when the substantive side of both Rush and Flavia leave much to be desired.
Flavia can not carry a conversation that is not a pre-rehearsed talking point anymore than Rush can find a minute to understand that he's just another talking head on television.
Side by side, Flavia and Rush are poster children for 'vacuousity'. Glitzy, meaningless, entertainment lard that is philosophically devoid yet manicured to appear substantive? Well....
Flavia and Rush discuss issues about as well as Tucker Carlson dances.
A shame. Instead of focusing on true journalism, Flavia is off doing whimsical fluff pieces for the Travel Channel. Perhaps that is appropriate. It is that type of venue that is more apt for someone of Flavia's caliber. Otherwise, she's a betrayal of the public trust and confidence in newspaper editorial board members.
Citizen Hunter and Ms. Colgan seldom rise above misinformation, shallow and ill guided 'spin', and vacuous approach.
It is appropriate to repeat: Ms. Colgan should resign for ethically betraying the public, by using the Daily News editorial board as a patronage political appointment.
Posted by: young person redoubt at September 16, 2006 01:40 AMLast time I checked researchign and talkign about eucharistic miracles, stigmata, and the history of the church was not meaningless nor just for entertianment. Last I checked neither was a degree in religion from Harvard. Say what you will about Flavia, but I have watched her on TV and read her stuff and there are many times I do nto agree, but she is always well researched and prepared and talking off the cuff is not reading from a teleprompter. You are suffering from what they call projeciton. It is you who post menaingless stuff instead of getting involved in a real substantive discussion. Look at this site, does this look like a site done by someone who does not care deeply about the issues. I don't think so.
Posted by: Julie at September 16, 2006 07:09 AMIs the real issue that Rush doesn't care enough or think you are important enough to look up how to pronounce your name?
Posted by: Geoff at September 16, 2006 08:11 AMInteresting that Rush says this:
"I didn't even talk to Cyrus Nowrasteh in the process. All I knew was, some years, ago he was working on it."
and then says this:
"But, frankly, when he told me about it, it went in one ear and out the other because I figured, "This thing doesn't have prayer, but go for it, Cyrus."
So, he didn't know anything about it, but he knew that it "didn't have a prayer," presumably because he felt it was putting a story together that would be crushed by the all powerful boogyman: the vast left wing media bias conspiracy.
Didn't know anything about it, but kneww that it was going to be based on a frightwing media perspective, such as his own.
Something smells like some Limberger
Posted by: Talking point detective at September 16, 2006 09:41 AM> Flavia can not carry a conversation that is not a pre-rehearsed talking point...
This is true. The problem for you and anyone else trying to debate her is that she pre-rehearses her talking points in the quarter of a second between when you stop speaking and when she starts.
It would be fun to watch a one-note anklebiter like you try to carry on a conversation with, much less debate, Flavia Colgan. You'd come away with a real understanding of who's "redoubtable."
Posted by: Martin at September 16, 2006 11:55 AMMartin you are dead right. And by teh way you are very funny and witty, I laughed out loud. I was abotu to get pissed when I read this is true, seriously great post.

how else are you going to say Flavia? LOL
Posted by: Niall at September 16, 2006 02:04 PMFlaaaaa-viaahh-
"...say it loud and there's music playing, say it soft, and it sounds like praying..."
It's not so much that you are saying her name, it kind of just rolls of your tongue, like a deep breathy sigh, a name created to be exhaled after breathing in her beauty and brilliance.
...and poor Rush, Come to think of it, doesn't excessive oxycontin use (abuse) effect the hearing - no wonder he never heard her name - he can't hear much of anything! Robbed of one of life's pleasures :(
Posted by: Hammer at September 16, 2006 04:37 PMDidn't ABC try to foist Cyst-boy off on an unsuspecting public by making him a commentator on Monday Night Football a few years back? And wasn't his opening salvo something along the lines of "Donovan McNabb wouldn't be allowed to carry the water bucket but for the fact that he's black."?
I seem to remember that little experiment ending rather badly......
I actually sat through the whole mess that was Path to 9-11, because I wanted to be able to say that it was as bad as I was expecting it to be. But I can't say that.
Because it was worse than expected. FAR worse.
From the very first montage, the production distorts the important lessons of 9-11, making it appear that both the Air Traffic Control system and NORAD (and thus, the Bush administration) worked as efficiently as possible. But the 9-11 commission report cites numerous flaws in the communications between ATC, the Airlines, and NORAD, as well as flaws regarding NORAD preparedness to deal with highjackings.
(the opening was a series of short scenes depicting the terrorists getting on the jets, hijacking them, calls going to Air Traffic Control, upon which ATC contacts Norad, and suddenly there are fighter jets in the air. Instead of the confusion and delays in response, we saw a seamless system working perfectly.)
The fact that the writer made stuff up out of whole cloth is bad enough -- but what is even worse is the blatant subtext of the film
Both the "bad guys" (not just the terrorists and bin Laden, but upper level Clinton Administration figures during the "Clinton" part of the program, mid-level bureaucrats during the "Bush" years) and the good guys (O'Neil, Massoud) are wholly one-dimensional characters whose primary function is to convey right-wing talking points.
The show sucked.
