Just past Sweetbriar cutoff, the course turns right and starts the true "cross country" segment: from here the race is over grassy surface. Runners go to Meade Monument, then follow the cyclone fence to the Pagoda entrance gate, cross thru the service entrance to Belmont Plateau, up the hill to Belmont Mansion, and return by way of Brewery Hill, down Kelly Drive to Malta. Be prepared to walk at an average of 4 MPH, 15 minutes per mile pace with few breaks. Bring water and wear well broken-in boots, shoes, or sneakers (sneakers are adequate in dry conditions). Directions: Cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge and turn right onto Route 49, then in 3.5 miles turn right onto Fort Mott road, and proceed to Fort Mott, which is 3 miles down the Fort Mott road. The route has been marked by the South Jersey Wheelmen, and is the flattest ride you will ever see. Because it is so flat, the pace will be 13-17 mph. - 6:30 p.m. FLY BY NIGHT BIKE RIDE: Leave the church parking lot next to Papermill Park (at the intersection of Papermill and Ebeneezer Church Rds.) for a 21 mile flat to hilly ride through Newark neighborhoods. The route will be similar to last year with some added twists. The pace will be slow (12-14 mph) so as not to outrun our lights.
