- 8:30 a.m. EARLYBIRD-CRYSTAL BEACH, SHORT VERSION BIKE RIDE: This is the 50-mile version of Mike Salter's Crystal Beach ride, a beautiful ride with a great stop overlooking the Chesapeake Bay towards Turkey Point. It starts in Middletown Square, Middletown DE, a VERY different starting point. Head south on Rt. 71/Rt 301, cross the Summit Bridge. When they split, follow Rt. 71 to the left, go about 1/4 mile, and turn left into the Middletown Square Shopping Center. The ride does NOT go over Summit Bridge like the long version Mike leads in the spring. The ride is not as hilly as my usual Chester County rides. The pace should be 14-15 mph. - 9:00 a.m. MTB 3 STATES & 4 PARKS IN 1 DAY BIKE RIDE: Depart from the Carpenter Recreation Area of White Clay Creek State Park (Route 896, 2 miles north of the University of Delaware). Terrain will include a mix of flat sections, hills, dirt roads, single track, and pavement. We’ll ride through portions of White Clay Creek State Park and the Middle Run Natural Area in Delaware, Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area in Maryland, and White Clay Creek Preserve in Pennsylvania. Distance will be 50+/- miles. Pace will be roughly equivalent in difficulty to 14 mph over moderately hilly terrain on the road. You’ll need a MTB, sound basic off road skills, and good endurance. The route is not particularly technical, except for short portions of Middle Run. Two stops available to replenish food and liquids. No ride if trails are wet and muddy. - 9:30 a.m. COMPLETE BATONA TRAIL HIKE (#1) - ONG’S HAT TO RT. 72. 9.4 miles, moderate pace. The Batona Trail (BAck TO NAture) is the premier hiking trail in South Jersey. It passes through typically forested Pine Barrens lands. It provides a sampling of the landscape of the region: slow moving clear, tea colored, meandering streams supporting cedar swamps and bogs; sandy high grounds anchoring tall pitch pines; deserted sand roads to once thriving towns & industries; oak-pine forests, cranberry reservoirs and blueberry farms. All are prominent features encountered along The Batona Trail. This is the first in a series of 5 hikes that will cover the entire trail (see 11/20, 11/27, 12/4 and 12/11 for the others). Please be on time for shuttles.....Meet on Rt. 72 between mileposts 4 & 5, on the south side where the trail crosses Rt. 72, for shuttle. - 6:30 p.m. FLY BY NIGHT IN NORTH WILMINGTON: We will start a weekly Fly By Night ride in North Wilmington, similar to the ride that Mario has been leading in Newark. We will leave Brandywine High School (Rt. 261, Foulk Rd) at the tennis courts for a 20 mile ride through North Wilmington on neighborhood roads, returning at approximately 8:00 p.m. Both front and rear lights are required for the ride. - 6:30 p.m. TRACK WORKOUT: Because of daylight saving and lack of lighting at Chestnut Hill Academy, we are moving the workouts to the Roxborough High School track. The workouts will be held every Tuesday at 6:30 at this location. There is lighting at this track so footing should not be a problem. The track is at the intersection of Pechin and Hermitage streets just below the High School, which is on Ridge Avenue. Call 215-849-9080.

- 10:00 a.m. SNOW GOOSE HIKE: 8-9 miles, moderate pace. A nice hike around the Brigantine National Wildlife Refuge. There should be thousands of waterfowl in the impoundments at this time of year. We will stop to view the wildlife. Bring lunch and beverage. NO DOGS PLEASE. ENTRANCE FEE OF $4.00. FROM THE NORTH take Garden State Parkway South to exit 48, which will lead you to Rt. 9 South. Continue South past Smithville. At the traffic light in Oceanville (Great Creek Rd.) turn LEFT and continue to the end. (Alternate) Hike Directions: Take Route 30 South, past route 206 . Go Left at the Light for 561 (Moss Mill) towards Smithville Follow 561 Alternate at the fork. Stay on 561 all the way into Smithville. In the development at Smithville, 561 goes left, but you can stay straight and in about 2 blocks you will be on route 9. At route 9, go Right towards Oceanville. - 6:00 p.m. CONSHOHOCKEN TO ART MUSEUM BIKE RIDE: 14-16 mph, 25 miles. Meet at the SEPTA train lot which is under the Conshohocken Bridge next to the "Outbound Station" candy store (E. Elm St. and Harry St in Conshohocken). We'll ride the back roads to Manyunk then pick up the West River Drive en route to the Philly Art Museum. Return to Conshohocken by 8:30-9:00 pm via the East River drive, Manyunk and River Rd. Short 5 min. bathroom stop at mile 13 at Lloyd Hall.
