Contra dancing is traditional New England social dancing with musicians playing jigs and reels. The dancing is energetic and involves mixing with the other dancers as each couple performs a short routine with another couple before progressing onto the next couple and repeating the sequence. It shares some elements with square dancing such as ''swing your partner'' and ''do-si-do'', but the couples form long lines rather than squares. Contra dancing is easy, mostly involving a smooth walking step. A different routine is taught before each dance by a caller who has everyone ''walk through'' the dance while explaining it. There are large signs for both River Road and the train station on the right hand side of Rt 73 just past Roger Wilco. We will take the 9:21 train to the Cass St. stop in Trenton. You can also join us en route at any stop along the way. From Cass St we will hike to the Hamilton – Trenton Marsh/Watson Woods, an interesting and historic area that includes White City Lake, Roebling Park, the Watson house, and Abbott’s Bluff. I read your column and saw your beautiful pictures. I have a daughter who is a school teacher in Philadelphia and is also a natural bodybuilder. She does not compete, but could. I would like to send her picture to you so that you could see that she is really looking great.
