You need a hybrid or mountain bike with a set of good lights for the front and at least a flicker light for the rear. There are a few spots where there are ruts in the road so a 10W light beam for the front should be used at a minimum. Bring your sense of adventure. Contra dancing is traditional New England social dancing with musicians playing jigs and reels. The dancing is energetic and involves mixing with the other dancers as each couple performs a short routine with another couple before progressing onto the next couple and repeating the sequence. It shares some elements with square dancing such as ''swing your partner'' and ''do-si-do'', but the couples form long lines rather than squares. Contra dancing is easy, mostly involving a smooth walking step. A different routine is taught before each dance by a caller who has everyone ''walk through'' the dance while explaining it. - 10:00 a.m. INTERPRETIVE HIKE: Accompany members of the Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission as they conduct an interpretive hike along this multi-use trail. We'll learn how coal, iron and limestone helped start the industrial revolution in America right here in the Lehigh Valley. The hike is about 6 miles long, but the pace is easy. Explore this 350 acre park adjacent to the Delaware River just south of the Tacony Palmyra Bridge. - 10:00 a.m. TUESDAY AM LANSDALE BIKE RIDE: 13-15 mph, 20-30 miles. Start at White Road Park, White Road, Lansdale, PA. Can't make the evening rides? Let's ride in the AM. We'll ride on gently rolling scenic roads, often heading towards Evansburg and Harleysville. Count on riding to Lake Galena once a month. Rain cancels ride. No one dropped. - 6:00 p.m. BIKE TOURING THE ROAD IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY: 15-16 mph, 18-32 miles. Start at Hatboro Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road, Horsham, PA. Come join me in seeing what winter has done to the roads in Montgomery County. Let's see who has been spinning this winter and who has been a couch potato. - 6:00 p.m. BOOTHS CORNER BIKE RIDE: 15-25 miles, Class: C+/B-. Meet at Booths Corner, Route 491 (Naaman’s Creek Road). The first ride will be on March 20, and rides will continue through the rest of the cycling season. Mileage will increase/decrease dictated by amount of daylight. - 6:30 p.m. 5K TRAINING PROGRAM: Doylestown Township Central Park, Pavillion 1, Doylestown, PA. Instructor: ForeRunner Personal Training of Training Zone Sports. Twelve week running clinic offered to men and women of all ages (12 to 92) and abilities. Gather up your friends, family and neighbors. No previous running experience necessary. Come with us as we enjoy the scenic roads of Harleysville and beyond. Rides will be moderately rolling with a few climbs. A few trips are planned to the Ridge and several to Bucks County. - 6:00 p.m. WEDNESDAY EVENING IN HARLEYSVILLE BIKE RIDE: 15-16 mph, 22-32 miles. Start at Indian Valley Middle School, Maple & Gruber Avenues, Harleyville, PA. Distance varies according to daylight. We ride in the areas north, west and east of Harleysville, seldom to the south. This means rolling terrain with some interesting hills and light car traffic. We ride a variety of routes with shorter, easier rides in the spring, and longer, harder rides as everyone gets stronger. This is a very popular and sometimes large group. This ride will be mostly bike trail riding through the Harleysville area. All family riders are encouraged to come out (including those tiny tricycles). Start the season riding at a faster pace (you did stay in shape this winter, didn’t you?) Routes range from moderately to aggressively rolling terrain and lots of hills.
