Contra dancing is traditional New England social dancing with musicians playing jigs and reels. The dancing is energetic and involves mixing with the other dancers as each couple performs a short routine with another couple before progressing onto the next couple and repeating the sequence. It shares some elements with square dancing such as ''swing your partner'' and ''do-si-do'', but the couples form long lines rather than squares. Contra dancing is easy, mostly involving a smooth walking step. A different routine is taught before each dance by a caller who has everyone ''walk through'' the dance while explaining it. - 8:00 a.m. EARLYBIRD, LITTLE ELK CREEK ROADS BIKE RIDE: This ride will be 48 miles at 13-14 mph. Starting at the Kennett Middle School (KMS), we will head west through PA almost to Oxford, then turn south east in to MD almost to Newark, DE before returning to KMS. This scenic, somewhat hilly route avoids most of the traffic. There is a store at the 31 mile mark. Some of the loveliest land in Pennsylvania lies in the Brandywine Valley south of Coatesville. Once part of King Ranch, and now divided into estates, the land of Buck and Doe Valley Farms still retains its undeveloped character, with hills and streams, woods and high grassy meadows. We ride in the areas north, west and east of Harleysville, seldom to the south. This means rolling terrain with some interesting hills and light car traffic. We ride a variety of routes with shorter, easier rides in the spring, and longer, harder rides as everyone gets stronger. This is a very popular and sometimes large group. Hello - great collection of events. Wish I could have found what I was looking for! : ) Do you know what day/time the 3 mile to 5 mile run happens at Cooper River Park in Camden?
