    • 6:00 p.m. HANDLOFF PARK BIKE RIDE: Leave from Handloff Park, Newark (formerly Barksdale Park) at the corner of Casho Mill & Barksdale Roads. Each week this ride will follow one of three different routes. Terrain will be flat on the southern route towards Chesapeake City and rolling to hilly on the northern route into Pike Creek & western route into Cecil County. Average speed will range from 15-17 mph on the flat route to 13-15 mph on the rolling to hilly routes. Distance will range from 25-35 miles depending on speed and daylight. Contra dancing is traditional New England social dancing with musicians playing jigs and reels. The dancing is energetic and involves mixing with the other dancers as each couple performs a short routine with another couple before progressing onto the next couple and repeating the sequence. It shares some elements with square dancing such as ''swing your partner'' and ''do-si-do'', but the couples form long lines rather than squares. Contra dancing is easy, mostly involving a smooth walking step. A different routine is taught before each dance by a caller who has everyone ''walk through'' the dance while explaining it.     • 5:00 a.m. EASTERN PA1000K BIKE RIDE: Weisel Youth Hostel, 7347 Richlandtown Road, Quakertown, PA. The course is a loop that starts out from Quakertown, PA. Day 1 follows the inital part of the PA600k up to Port Jervis and Hawks Nest through the Delaware Water Gap. The first day's segment continues past the Lackawaxen River up along Rt97 to Binghamton, NY for the first sleep-over stop. Day 2 heads along the Southern Tier of New York through Elmira, Wellsboro and down the PA Grand Canyon into Lewisburg for the second sleep-over stop. Day 3 continues south along the Susquehanna River into the Lancaster area, where we pick up the final part of the PA600k route back to Quakertown. As you can see, the route takes us through several state and national forest areas -- it would not be unusual to encounter wild life including black bears. The following link provides some tips on what to do if you encounter a black bear. As shown in the route profile, there are several steep, extended climbs. A triple or 39x27 is highly recommended.     • 9:00 a.m. CANOE/KAYAK THE DELAWARE RIVER: We're paddling with the tide from Bordentown to Burlington, returning on the RiverLine for our cars – what fun!!!     • 6:00 p.m. FRIDAY IN MAY BIKE RIDE: Beginner Rides from Spring Middle School This ride is intended for beginners/families who would like to get out those bikes and ride in a group.     • 6:00 p.m. BONSALL PARK BIKE RIDE: These rides are 20-25 miles with an average speed of about 15-17 mph. We will start across from Bonsall Park at Silverside Rd and Greendale Rd. We will ride to the Wawa in Chadds Ford, where we will regroup. On the return we will regroup at the DuPont Country Club tennis courts.     • 7:00 p.m. FRIDAY NITE FITNESS HIKE: 8-10 miles, fast pace. The ongoing, every Friday night, all year round, Friday night fitness hike; where we try to work up a sweat exploring the sand roads and trails of Brendan Byrne State Forest. Be prepared to walk at an average of 4 MPH, 15 minutes per mile pace with few breaks. Bring water and wear well broken in boots, shoes, or sneakers (sneakers are adequate in dry conditions). Socks are also important foot gear; synthetics and wool being better at preventing blisters (avoid cotton socks).     • 9:00 a.m. INTRODUCTION TO MOUNTAIN BIKING OUTING: REI (Conshohocken/Plymouth Meeting), 200 W Ridge Pike Ste 115, Conshohocken, PA. Experience the thrill of mountain biking with REI instructors as they teach you the proper techniques of shifting, braking, hill climbing and descent, body and pedal position, and navigating minor obstacles on the trail. (at Black Bridge Rd.) in MD. at 10:15 a.m. - Go about 1.5 miles west of the DE border into MD on Rt. 273 and turn right onto Appleton Rd. to Black Bridge Rd. on the left. On this hike we have a 5600+ acre park to explore.     • 10:00 a.m. SEX ON THE BEACH BIKE RIDE: (pleaes arrive by 9:45), Class B, 16-18 mph, 68 miles; Class B-, 13-15, mph, 50~ miles; C, 11-13 mph, 45~ miles. A true classic created by Pete Odell, run this year as a multi-class, multi-club ride with the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia. The early miles of all routes pass through marshlands teaming with birds on the way to East Point Lighthouse, where we may spot horseshoe crabs performing their prehistoric mating ritual. After a stop at mile 25 we'll cross the Maurice River for more car-free riding. Those doing the longest route will head back out to the bay for lunch in Fortescue, the weakfish capital of the world! All three distances feature a spin around Mauricetown, with its historic houses dating back to the 1700s. Cue sheets provided for those who want to set their own pace. Meet at Shaw's Bridge Park near the intersection of Rt 842 and South Creek Road (also near Lenape Park) for an easy paced ride along the Brandywine. Flat to rolling terrain.     • PADDLE WITH THE TIDE ON THE COHANSEY RIVER: Enjoy a paddle down the tidal Cohansey River while we watch for eagles, osprey, great blue herons and other water birds! Then enjoy dinner at a restaurant on the river after the trip. This is a 16-mile trip from Bridgeton to Greenwich. The Cohansey is a very large, wide river with a swift current and rapidly changing winds. Due to the need to maintain a fast pace, so that we don't run out of water before we reach our destination, all kayaks must be 12-feet in length or longer.
