The ongoing, ever y Friday night, all year round, Friday night fitness hike; where we try to work up a sweat exploring the sand roads and trails of Brendan Byrne State Forest. Be prepared to walk at an average of 4 MPH, 15 minutes per mile pace with few breaks. Bring water and wear well broken in boots, shoes, or sneakers (sneakers are adequate in dry conditions). Socks are also important foot gear; synthetics and wool being better at preventing blisters (avoid cotton socks). - 8:00 a.m. POCOCO MOUNTAINS WHITEWATER RAFTING DAY TRIP: If you have never been Whitewater Rafting, this is your shot to see what it is all about. You will be on the Lehigh River in beautiful Jim Thorpe, PA. We have chose a "Dam Release" day meaning that the water is sure to be "Whitewater" and not a float trip as often occurs in the summer months. This is a great first club ride and an excellent opportunity to ride with your spouse, significant other and/or your kids. Depart Handloff Park (Barksdale Road in Newark) for a 10 mile ride at 8-10 mph along mostly quiet neighborhood roads and the Hall Trail. The terrain is mostly flat with some rolls in the last half of the ride. There is a point about half way that allows you to stop early and avoid the rolls if you choose. - 9:00 a.m. CANOE/KAYAK TOMS RIVER: Follow the route of the Annual Toms River Canoe Race without the competition. Ten miles of changing scenery and river conditions from park and forest to open bay and river. Contact leaders to confirm participation. We will meet at Friendly's on Rt. 37, just past mile post 4, on the East bound side. Come early and join us for breakfast. Bring five quarters for the parking meter at the take out. - 9:30 a.m. DOC'S BIKE RIDE: 35-50 miles, Class: B-. Various routes from Swarthmore. Leaves from 320 Market parking lot. Probably a lunch stop. Foul weather cancels ride. Contact Larry Green at 610-544-5799.
- 10:00 a.m. Back Bay KAYAK TRIP: 34th St to Corson Inlet and return. Walk over or around and swim in Ocean at Corson Inlet State Park. Directions: exit 25 Garden State Parkway Roosevelt Blvd. to Ocean City (34thST). Take first right immediately after bridge. Drive back under bridge. Put in under the south and east side of 34th St bridge. Kayak trip takes about 2 hrs. if no Ocean shore beach cooling desired. Of course, rain or threat of thunderstorm cancels. - 6:00 p.m. "C" YOU AT ROSE TREE BIKE RIDE: 25+ miles, Class: C+. Talk is, C rides are more fun. Come out, and find out. Meet at Rose Tree Park, Rt 252, Media PA.
