- 8:00 a.m. GRANOGUE CX RACE BIKE RIDE: Get in a ride and watch the cyclocross races at Granogue. A beautiful duPont estate + skilled racers riding bikes that look like road machines fitted with knobby tires + a challenging course of dirt, grass, and asphalt with steep climbs and sharp turns + great spectator viewing = a good time! Leave the parking area at Granogue (2900 Montchanin Road, Wilmington, DE 19807--look for the road bikes) for a 60+/- loop at 14 mph to watch the afternoon CX races. We'll ride through Northbrook, Unionville, Landenberg, Yorklyn, and past Hoopes Reservoir. The route is a mix of flat, rolling, and hilly terrain. Parking at Granogue was $2 per car last year and the proceeds went toward travel expenses for amateur riders from the U.S. racing in the Cyclocross World Championships in Europe. The fee will probably be the same this year. Alternate start is behind the Wawa in Chadds Ford along Route 1 at about 8:15 a.m. – no fee. Bring money for refreshments along the way. Food and beverages will also be available for sale at the race site in the afternoon. Katie Compton--three time U.S. National Cyclocross Champion, Silver Medallist in the 2007 Cyclocross World Championship, Delaware native, and former member of both WCBC and FSVS--won last year's race.
