    • 6:00 p.m. NEWARK BIKE RIDE: Leave from Handloff Park, Newark, at the corner of Casho Mill Rd and Barksdale Rd. Each week this ride will follow one of three different routes. Terrain will be flat on the southern route towards Chesapeake City and rolling-to-hilly on the northern route into Pike Creek and western route into Cecil County. Average speed will range from 14-16 mph on the flat route and 13-15 mph on the rolling to hilly routes. Distance will range from 20-35 miles depending on speed and daylight. The goal of the Penn Relay Carnival is a simple one: to provide the best competition for the greatest number of participants of all levels, ages and abilities. The ongoing, every Friday night, all year round, Friday night fitness hike; where we try to work up a sweat exploring the sand roads and trails of Brendan Byrne State Forest. Be prepared to walk at an average of 4 MPH, 15 minutes per mile pace with few breaks. Bring water and wear well broken in boots, shoes, or sneakers (sneakers are adequate in dry conditions). Socks are also important foot gear; synthetics and wool being better at preventing blisters (avoid cotton socks). Ride from Western Terminus of Schuylkill Bike Path to the Philadelphia Museum of Art then return for total of 44 miles. Starting at the Western Terminus of Schuylkill Bike Path (Lower Perkiomen Valley Park) we will ride east 22 miles to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and park our bikes for short exploration of Center City area. Lunch break will be 12 miles into the returning 22 mile trip, for a total of 44 miles.
