    Machines, party and voting

Great, we approved an independent ethics board!
Rats, hundreds of voters GAVE UP on voting after their machines broke and they faced the daunting provisional ballots!
Good grief. This was a primary -- turnout was very light. What will happen in the fall?

So we passed the formation of an "independant" ethics board. Now the mayor with sonfirmation from city council will appoint this board. This board who will ultimately be investigating city officials and employees is now given a budget and enforcement powers. So what makes you think this will be better than what we have now? You really think they will investigate and make rules that aren't already approved by the people who appointed them?

Sounds like a fluff move with no teeth by a soon to be mayoral candidate looking to make himself look good for the Democratic primary. Let's see what they actually do.

As for the break down of hundreds of machines, I find it highly suspicious that this election is the first time a "screw" was too tight? Funny that never happened before. A shame that they do not take the time to test each machine before election day, instead they want to see hundreds of voters disenfranchised and waste the time on election day fixing them.

What's up with people giving out Vazquez stammps inside of polling places? Can those votes be disqualified, or do the votes stand and the DAs office can prosecute those responsible for voter fraud? [picks self up off the floor from laughing.]

The write-in function breaking seems counter-intuitive in terms of knoown alliances. MArge Tartaglione was supporting a write-in campaign, but Renee Tartaglione was putting busted machines out on the street. Maybe all the good ones got sent to the 179th.

With provisionals and write-ins and what not, they'll be lucky to get this sorted out in time to print the general election ballot.
