I'm heading out of town until January 2nd so Wendy will have to handle the blogging chores for a few days. In the meantime, I thought we'd have a little fun.
A favorite quote of mine comes from an episode in which the Simpson family visits "Efcot Center" for the National Teacher of the Year awards. Little Lisa explains that World of Tomorrow ride was what people in 1960 thought the world would look like in 1984.
Here is your chance to predict what the city will look like one year hence as we near the end of 2006. On December 27th 2007, the new mayor will have been chosen and will be awaiting his (unless something really unpredictable happens) swearing-in ceremony. Will the campaign have been a clean, productive discussion of the issues or a war of words leaving us all the dumber for it?
Philadelphia Weekly's Hoagie Dip Cartoon had their own idea:

I see their rendition of Katz has gotten a little more flattering.
So what are your predictions? Go crazy.

Tis is more of a statement than a prediction but if somehow Tigre Hill's "The Shame of A City" could could some type of wide spread distribution in 2007 either by theater or DVD or TV broadcast, I think the people of this city would be reminded of the sins of the past and they would see that most of the players in that film are running for mayor and should be disqualified for their disgraceful acts. That leaves Knox who has money and from what I can see that is all he has, Evans who seems well intentioned but I am wary of anybody who would have Bruce Crawley and Jerry Mondesire and the "reformed" pay to player Carl Singley in their camp and finally Michael Nutter who in my opinion is the real deal and a true reform candidate. If we live up to are reputation "corrupt and contented" as I am sure we are we will elect Brady or Fattah(two disaster candidates) If we want to move into the 21st century and are tired of this crap elect Nutter or the candidate who has not announced that can bring true reform to this city.
BTW does anyone know the status of "The Shame Of A City"? being released? I met Tigre Hill at a screening and he said it would be released on DVD before the primary but the website has not been updated. Civic groups should see if they can get a copy of the film and hold screenings before the election.

Tigre Hill has endorsed Michael Nutter and given him exclusive rights to use the Shame of a City documentary in his campaign. There was a showing earlier this month at Prince Theatre in Center City and another is scheduled for Jan 4th. The details are on nutterformayor.com I think.
I haven't heard if and when the video will be available to the public, other than what you just said.

The headlines will read: Ed Rendell has eaten so much fast food, he is ready for a fatal heart attack. No doctor in Pennsylvania is answering the phone. There are no doctor's left in Pennsylvania to answer the call.

Thank you Wendy for finding out the info on The Shame Of a City release. I can honestly say that that film awakened my dormant political sense and has caused me to do whatever I can to make difference. Interesting that Tigre Hill is endorsing Nutter. I was certainly leaning towards him but hearing that he is endorsing him might just put me solidly in his corner. Although I am not a Republican, I wish the city GOP would put up a viable candidate in the upcoming race just to give the democrats some real competition. Happy New Year to all and I hope to see honesty and integrity capture city hall in 07!
