Union leader John Dougherty has just announced that he will not be running the mayor's race.
In a news release, he said his decision was due to family health concerns.
"Members of my family continue to face serious health challenges. I cannot, in good conscience, devote the time and energy necessary to mount a viable campaign for mayor at this time, knowing that the people I love most in this world still need me by their sides, not out on the campaign trail for the next four months," Dougherty said.
Dougherty said he would not rule out running in the future. And who he will support in the race remains to be seen.

It's a shame that we finally got campaign limits and a rich, unqaulified hack is chasing candidates of the race with rediculous amounts of money. The good news is that besides fattah, the rest of the candidates are not millionaires and can really represent the needs of working and poor people.

no great loss as far as I'm concerned. I dont see why people are disappointed. He was the least qualified to run.

I'm sort of glad to hear he's not running. The field is wide enough w/ the 5 (Brady now included) canidates. Why muddy the waters anymore. It will be interesting to see how he swings his unions influence. (who now benefits?)

Nutter.
Other candidates are now talking about ethics reform, ending the pay to play culture etc., but Nutter is the one with the record of accomplishment.

Clearly Nutter is best. I have been a community organizer in this city for 10 years and have dealt with almost every politician in town and Nutter stands out as the smartest, most experienced with city-budget and neighborhood-level issues, most hardworking, most accessible and the most hungry for envisioning a Philadelphia liberated from the machine politics and parochialism that has dragged us down for decades.

Nutter also had a private sector job specializing in municipal finance before getting elected to city council. I think this, along with his first-hand view of what goes on within the city over the past 15 year, probably explains what I perceive as his superior grasp of the issues.
