    DWIGHT EVANS TO RELEASE PLAN
    FOR A SMARTER PHILADELPHIA

PHILADELPHIA --- Dwight Evans will release his detailed education plan in front of the new Constitution High School for American Studies on Monday, January 29th at 11:00 AM. Evans plan, entitled, “A Smarter Philadelphia School by School,” will lay out several initiatives designed to extend and accelerate the outstanding progress made in the Philadelphia School District and other educational entities over the past five years. He believes that education is the key to reducing crime, lifting people out of poverty, growing a middle class and increasing civic engagement. Evans announced for Mayor before more than 1,200 supporters on December 11th; his campaign slogan is “A Safer Philadelphia – Block by Block.”

Key elements of the “Smarter Philadelphia” plan will be increasing school safety, expanding early childhood education opportunities, lowering class size, modernizing classrooms, and ending the dropout crisis. Evans has often stated that quality education and economic opportunities comprise the first “leg” of a balanced approach to reducing crime; the other three legs are better law enforcement, an effective criminal justice system, and community partnerships and involvement.
