More big announcements on the way

Wednesday at 1 p.m., Michael Nutter will announce plans to file a lawsuit to revoke the business licenses of two Philadelphia gun shops.

He didn't say which ones. But gun shops that break federal firearms regulations have been much in the news lately, with two shops -- Delia's Gun Shop, on Torresdale Avenue near Devereaux Avenue in Wissinoming, and C&C Sports Center, on Geiger Road near Gantry in the Northeast -- detailed in a recent report by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

“Licensed gun shop owners who do not heed obvious red flags on multiple purchases of guns are just as guilty as the person purchasing guns for illegal resale on our streets. Gun dealers must be held accountable," Nutter said in the release.

More details to come from the press conference tomorrow in the 6100 block of Torresdale Avenue at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile...Chaka Fattah has just said he will detail a plan for "vastly improving healthcare in Philadelphia" Thursday at noon at St. Christopher’s Hospital. Could be an effort to care for the uninsured, since he mentions that a "staggering 140,000 Philadelphians are uninsured and lack access to affordable, quality care."

Oh, and then there's Brady's shindig at 5 p.m., of course.

    makes sense:

If politicians like Evans, Fattah, Brady have done SO much for Philly in their current elected positions....WHY DON’T THEY STAY PUT????

A point not many people are making I think, why don't they stay as Committee Chairs or members of a new majority? They would probably be much, much more effective in their current roles than by running for mayor.

    sj:

egos are involved and each of these guys thinks they are best equipped to try to get things on track after Street's arrogance. Let's be honest, you dont have much of an impact as a member of the state house or the house of reps in DC. Sure you can bring home a little money every now and then, but almost anyone can be an effective rep for their home area. It doesnt take any particular skill or vision.

    makes sense:

But if you look at the skill sets of Evans, Fattah, Brady (of much they aren’t shy about sharing). Most of what they are getting at is….Evans as Chair of Appropriations I have been able to do X, Y, Z for the city. Fattah as a member of the House (now in the majority) I have been able to do X, Y, Z. Brady as head of the party machine in Philly I have been able to bring together and broker these groups. So my point is if you have been able to do so much then why not STAY PUT? If you have the best interest of Philly in mind, then why not STAY PUT…because according to them they have delivered in their current roles.

    mike:

doesn't that same logic apply to Nutter? If he is such a reformer, why did'nt he stay on city council? Council is certainly in need of members who are able to lead on reform-minded legislation...something that they are now missing thanks to his departure, other than maybe Kenney.

    mike:

that's why nutter should be "promoted" to mayor

    mike:

and it's because of Evans record and accomplisments that he should be "promoted" to mayor

    mike:

or you could promote Nutter...just a thought
