    Petition time

    It's almost petition time!

For those of you who don't know, this is when the campaigns begin circulating nominating petitions. You only have to get 1,000 of them to get on the ballot for the May 15 primary, but getting more is a sign of strength -- Fattah wants to get more than 10,000, for example, and so is recruiting volunteers.

For major party candidates, the petitions can be circulated from Feb. 13 to March 6.

Below the jump, read Fattah's call for volunteers...

    Dear ,

Chaka Fattah wants to be the next Mayor of Philadelphia to create more opportunity for all of us.

To get Chaka on the ballot for Mayor, we need to get nominating petitions signed. Can you help us meet our goal of getting over 10,000 nominating petitions signed?

Please RSVP here to attend a brief training session on Saturday morning where you can pick up petition forms and get tips on how to be the most effective:

    Petition Training Details:
    Saturday, February 10th
    10:30-11:30 AM
ETA: The location for this has changed. It is now:
    The Enterprise Center
    4548 Market Street
    Philadelphia 19139

    Again, please RSVP at http://www.phillyforfattah.com/rsvp
If you can't make it to the training, you please pick up petition forms at our office, or, click here to send us your address and we'll mail them to you:

In addition to helping with petitions, we can also use your help making phone calls, assisting in our office, or asking your family and friends to put Fattah for Mayor signs in their window. To learn more, check out the volunteer section of our website here.

Working together, we can elect Chaka Fattah and begin a new era of promise and progress to all Philadelphians.

wendy fattah bias has been thinly-veiled at best, but using her status as a poster on this site--which claims to be an objective forum for discussion regarding the upcoming mayoral race and which is sponsored and promoted by news organizations that should be held to objectivity--to promote fattah's call for signatures is disgusting.

shame on you wendy. those of us who seek an unbiased forum just lost a refuge.

    Another Anonymous:

I don't think Wendy's been biased for Fattah. Actually, I think you could make the argument that highlighting Fattah's desire to get 10,000 signature is setting him up for failure.

    Rachel:

Fattah wants 10,000 signatures because all the candidates are going to be challenging the validity of the sigantors. All the candidates, if they are smart, and have done this before, will aim for far more signatures than are necessary.
