... Mayor Street to end the Community College strike tomorrow.
(ETA: Nutter postponed this event, though he did meet with strikers today. - W)
As tempted as I am to ask him to wave magic press statements at other city problems -- can he call for an end to the city schools budget shortfall, too? -- I must point out that Nutter and CCP go way back. In 2006, as one example, Nutter proposed increasing the school's budget by $3 million; it was increased by $1 million.

Funding CCP should be one of the city's top priorities. Period. the fact that it doesn't provide a third of CCP's budget like it's supposed to is a disgrace. That fact that Street just cut its budget is even more of a disgrace.

I completely agree. Other states -- the Carolinas, for example -- use the Community College system as a job-training system that has powered their economy AND managed to close a major skills gap in their workforce. But ours is ridiculously expensive. I am not taking a side here, but I was glad to hear the CCP leadership say they just did not want to raise tuition more -- even if a strike resulted.
