Philadelphia Magazine lumps for Michael Nutter in their May issue. Check it out here.
And they have their Tom Knox profile up. I'll just say that the subhead gives you the idea:
"Millions of dollars in ads have made him the man to beat in the mayor’s race. Unfortunately, the crusading outsider Tom Knox plays on TV bears little resemblance to the connected insider he is in real life"

Good. Now, mainline suburbanites will know who they can't vote for.

Wow, looks like a good issue to get endorsed in...
BTW, I just did a little writeup on the phillyblog politics forum with my thoughts on Tom Knox:

I couldnt have pictured Philly mag endorsing anyone but Nutter. If only it mattered in a Philly election. Now supporters of the other candidates can use this a proof that Nutter isn't "black enough" to get black votes. A "real" brother liek Fattah wouldnt get endorsed by a suburban focused publication like Phila Mag.

1/3 of their readership is in Philadelphia proper -- the highest of the eight counties they cover....its not suburban focused at all

why did it take a philly mag writter to totally outclass investigative reporters at the daily papers? I mean they got some of the low hanging fruit first, but jeez it's almost may and the real tom knox is coming to the surface.

Great endorsement of Nutter--but of course I'm already a supporter. As for the Knox piece, while the article didn't significantly add to the information that has already been published (and ignored by the TV watching masses), it did an excellent job of bringing the point home of what his arrogance, lack of ethical clarity and utter dearth of political savvy might mean if he is elected. The prospect of Mayor Knox makes me frightened for our city.

Irregardless of who reads this article, this peice calls it like it is, which is more than you can say for the Daily News or the Inky, which always stop short of connecting the dots and calling out those who are bringing this city down.
Specifically, I was impressed that someone finally put this line in print, "We have an incompetent police commissioner who rose through the ranks as a product of the old boys’ network."
Sad but true. Fourtinately, there is hope if Nutter wins.

The kind of in-depth reporting they did on Knox is sorely lacking the ivory tower on North Broad.
Makes you wonder who killed all of those Knox stories in the Inky board room.

Sorry, guys, you're buying the spin: Both dailies have done much on Tom Knox, no matter how many times the other campaigns complain that we haven't.
Posted by Wendy | April 24, 2007 1:51 PM
The problem with coverage in the two dailies is that it's been spread out over a number of stories, over a fairly long period of time. I seem to be the only person in the city who bookmarked most of them.

One could argue that by spreading the coverage across several stories the paper lessened the impact of the material.
Poor reporting and homework is no excuse. Let's face it, Philly mag upstaged the two major papers in town on coverage of Knox.

SO what about the endorsement - he Ain't gonna win -get it? He just ain't gonna Win? He can't win -save this comment and read it on May 16, 2007 -Nutter ain't gonna win - just a spoiler y'all!

I dont agree that there has been no coverage of Knox's business dealings in the paper. I dont think the dailies have tried to skirt around his history or make him out to be a saint. The Philly mag profiles were pretty harsh on all five candidates. They really tried to paint a balanced picture of each guy and show you their positives and negatives.
